PFFT! WARRA ARE GOOD EVERY YEAR...UNTIL FINALS. We know that when the pressure comes on they begin to choke and the past two grand finals have proven this. Also, you wait till ronnie coleman and pigeon bath get into the line up, then you will know the meaning of first class
this year might be different. good story in the colac herald today about there forward line

ok not that anybody cares but this is how i currently see the comp.

WARRA- the hunted. no doubt that they are the side to beat. they have the best list and most players have grand final experiance. Every side is out to beat them though and a couple of players get injured then it brings them right back to the pack.

ALVIE- Perhaps the side that can worry Warra. Midfield can match it with warra and probably better it, forward line is very able and back half is solid without setting the world on fire. Obviously they would have to be at there best to topple the favourites and would have to have all the stars on the park, fit and healthy. Having the best player in the comp helps also.

BIRREGURRA- Billed as the smokey preseason and so far there form has held up. Whelan has always given the impression he could kick some big numbers if in a successsful team and this is his chance. Wilkos kicking penetration from the half back line is proving very valuable and from all reports the other recruits are showing promise and the older blokes and playing well. Dont be surprised to see them still going deep into september.

LORNE- A shadow of its former self and not looking at all capable of winning a third straight flag. Look like they lack guidance and the word is that lee hollmer is trying to talk some of last years retirees into playing again. Dont know that this will fix the problem but it would help to have some more direction out there.

FORREST- As always, Forrest has alot of new faces this year and it will take time for them to gel. Embarrassed by irrewarra last week, it would not surprise to see a dramatic improvement in the next few weeks and especially toward the end of the year. I like the look of big Saltalamacchia, very big and imposing build, would not like to be on the receiving end if he ran through you. Timms looks to me to be struggling to recapture his previous seasons form and rathja is not getting any younger. They will be a finals side, the question is, how good of a finals side.

APOLLO BAY- Will not confess to have heard too much about them. There early season form has been moderate and no doubt they have a very dangerous forward line when all are well in butterworth, rampall and the likes but losing to lorne (who had Jack Hollmer in) was a bit of a spped hump for them. Prefer to wait and see with the bay.

SIMPSON- Some handy recruits eg, james turnbull. Still a long way off the benchmark and have plenty of kids in the line up. Not this year.

COLAC IMPERIALS- Club was throw into disarray at the conclusion of last season with players and club personnal leaving left right and center and the team they field this year is a pretty poor one. Will struggle to win a enough games to stay off the bottom this year and could fight out the wooden spoon.

WESTERN EAGLES- Symes is said to have some ability but they have nothing else. Club as a whole is battling and havEnt had a competitive football side in years. They with imps, will fight out the spoon.

OTWAY DISTRICTS- Got some good youth and a couple of handy players in scotty gainger and Stu Sutherland but the fact that Tim Pekin is still playing at 44 suggests to me that they are struggling for depth and drop away pretty quickly after the few better players. Couple of big losses last year in beckett and jennings hurts them dearly. They will win there fair share, may cause an upset or two but not in the race for finals.

SOUTH COLAC- A rabble. Chris McGuane battles and 90% of the time he touches the footy is when he kicks in or gets cheap kicks loose man in defence. Couple of times a south forward would mark about 50 out and give it off to McGuane as he thinks he can kick it 60 and he kicked it about 30 to one of the other team. Dont really have any stars or even decent players.

fair appraisal of where comp is at, lorne did the bay last week and a good sighter this week against i/b. no mention of forrest, 3 goals in 100 mintutes of footy!!!

What about the teams you haven't rated where can they improve? Or how can they turn a club around for next year?

Look forward to hearing your thoughts.:)

ive done the rest now
Sorry, I didn't make myself clear. I was wondering how people thought the clubs that are struggling a bit could get their futures looking a little brighter? Without the cleche's of promoting juniors and the likes. We all talk about the good sides, but rarely do we have something constructive to say about clubs that are not travelling so well.

Just something to provoke a little bit of thought.

sorry powerpunch but the bottom clubs eg. eagles, south, otway cannot get off the bottom in the next few years. all have poor kids sides and eagles in particular have no cash to lure key players and players dont want to play for them because they are no good. They will not be a force in the next decade at least

good points there...
It is becoming more important for local footy clubs to have funds behind them to help lure those extra players to take it to the next level.

Otway had a pretty easy start off this year excluding Warra time to see how the boys play for the next couple of weeks with some verry good sides ahead of them. last week was a bit of a let off realy dont feel they where the better side though 4 points puts them into third. heard abit a bout lorne been a top side this year and results havent all gone thier way. Alvie and Warra would be the best game to watch of 2008 as been the 2 favorites for the flag at the moment and probably will be all year.. Western Eagles and Colac Imps just have no depth in thier game at the moment and will struggle this year. hoping Eagles can get 2 wins tis year but its a pretty big task. Dont know much about forrest so i cant comment there but i will find out on saterday. and Birre will be a finals contender and im hoping they go to the G/F as long as one of the other teams choke.

p.s only new to this but thats what my thoughts are. any thoughts of where i stuffed up?

A rumour from Geelong is that Winchesea are approaching the league to be readmitted to CDFL. Anyone heard anything?

Just spoke to a mate that has a fair bit to do with Winch, ex player, says he knows nothing about it, bur reckons it would be the best thing for the club.

well yes is a good point there boom.. eagles are in fact struggling for funds.. and if u have a look on the eagles website u mite read a bit more about their woes... bit harsh about eagles having no good junior teams.. the current under 17 team is mostly made up of their under 14 grand final side from last year... i think there is only 4 top age players in their team... eagles 17's will b a force within the next couple of years when blokes like jake ryan, matt kenny, tommy whytcross, joel theodore and klay robinson get bigger and more experienced..i think how this group filter through to the senior ranks will have a lot to do with where the eagles will b in 5-10 years time.

Tim Pekin would be the fittest bloke running around in the CDFNL, just like he was when he played AFL. He is playing at 43 because he can, NOT because he has to and apart from that, he is enjoying it. And as for Judson Jennings being a big loss, pigs a**e! He left because he couldn't handle Pekins discipline and for more money. He is not missed at the club at all. Go and watch the young fellas and you will see they are some of the best in their age groups. And Otway have just had the U14's win three on the trot and the U17's are going well too. Boomer, get to the club and have a good look before you start bagging them too much, but pay the seven or eight bucks and see for yourself don't just listen to others, please. I'm not saying they are definate finals contenders in any grade but they are travelling better than last season, even with the easy start.

listen here madam. I have seen first hand the poorness of the otway district in both kids sides. They have one decent player perhaps capable of being in the best 22 in the comp in seventeens and he is playing ones also. Tim Pekin would not be playing if he didnt have to, what does he have to prove to anyone? I admire what they do with what they have at their disposal and their poor facilities and location and some of the people out there are top blokes who do a terrific job but the best measuring stick for how a club is travelling is how they are performing on the field...not too well

does matt fidler have these guys tipped as AFL prospects

Madam....... Tim pekin did say that he would play seniors as long as he is not keeping a young bloke out of a game. He is still playing. I may be wrong... but i am assuming this is because there is a shortage of quality kids coming through???
