Cold Shower Therapy

tried it this morning. Washed hair and body with warm water, then turned cold for about 5 minutes and stood around. No noticeable short or long term difference during day. Feeling lethargic as usual and resorted to ice coffee as usual.

will have another go Thurs and Fri, start work too early tomorrow to fiddle about in the shower

Up here in central Queensland cold showers are about all I have, especially in summer time when if you have a hot shower you're dripping with sweat.

Do the supposed benefits extend to cold baths or swimming in extremely cold water?

I ask because, I'm a somewhat keen bushwalker and I am quite partial to a swim at the end of a long and hard hike. I've swum in a few extremely cold lakes- Tali Karng and Rocky Valley Dam in the Victorian Alps, Pedder, Gordon and Great Lake in Tassie are ones that come to mind- and I reckon I've always felt much less stiff and sore post-hike after swims in those extra cold ones compared to, say, when I've gone from a swim post-hike in a relatively warm body of water.

Yeh i'm pretty sure they do. Would have to be along the lines of the ice bath recovery theory. FWIW i dont think the cold shower/ice bath thing does much for me unless i do it post exercise, then i wake up much less sore the following day.

Only when the opposition's change rooms don't have hot water (or maybe they just turn it off).

Definitely helps post exercise.

Wonder if the supposed benefits of the every morning routine are genuine however.

I'm taking them colder and colder, to the point where it's quite uncomfortable, but not painful. Might just keep lowering the temp.

It's funny, the thought of a really hot shower doesn't really appeal now. Imagine it'll be different in the dead of winter though.

In all honesty however, it is pushing 40 degrees and expected to pass it soon, so even water on its coldest setting is a little warm
