FMD, just grab one of their many packaging boxes off the shelf that empty or near empty and use that to carry stuff in. **** is it so hard for the average Joe or average Julie to think for themselves ?

Or if you're a genuine tight arse, put it back in the trolley loose and put it in your boot or back seat.

And as in SA, it will solve nothing.
I suppose you think all those plastic bags just vanish into thin air once the garbage truck takes them away. Just like all those cigarette butts you throw on the ground, as soon as you cant see them they are no longer a problem right.

Do you know where most of the plastic in the oceans come from?
No! But if your case is there is more plastic from other sources in our oceans so we shouldn't concern ourselves with the significant amount of damage plastic bags do to our marine life, then we disagree. And that's not to mention the damage done on land and the economic costs - production and clean-up

Plastic bags are one tiny part of the plastic problem. As stated earlier, it's finger in the dyke. It will solve nothing. We can't even recycle in this country.

But you admit it's part of the problem. So why get worked up about fixing a problem, no matter how small? Or are you one of those types that can't focus on two things at a time?

Banning plastic bags and straws in Australia is like pissing in the ocean. Disposable nappies, now there's a item the left can really sink their collective teeth into.

88 to 95% of plastic waste enters the oceans from these 10 rivers

According to that graph (assuming it's correct) it's not so much a case of others doing it so it's doesn't matter that we do it too but that Australia/Australians are not the real source of the problem anyway.

If Australia could somehow 100% successfully remove all plastics in the country it would still not make one iota of difference to what is a world wide problem that originates mainly from China and other East Asian countries.

It's akin to accusing women to stop being rapists when it's men who usually responsible for committing that type of crime. Australia removing plastics altogether from shops and supermarkets is basically a token gesture that would do little, if anything, to solve the problem. *shrugs*

It seems the poster just doesn’t see the big picture.

First it was that plastic bags aren’t the most prevalent in the oceans, either oblivious to or not regarding it as important the extent of the damage they still do to ocean and river marine life. Not to mention the environmental land damage.

Then there is a detour to recycling not realising it is not only costly, not honed, or the fact that the overwhelming majority do not recycle and never will.

Then there’s the high cost of making the bags and the high clean-up costs.

The simple most cost effective and environmentally effective answer is remove them from production.

And then every thing you buy in coles and woolies is packed in plastic bags or foam trays covered in plastic, just a token gesture not to mention they are making a whopping $71 million in gross profit by replacing free lightweight plastic bags with heavier 15 cent options. Sucked in greenies.

You don't get it, do you? No one is saying this will solve all the world's ills, but it's a pollutant so it's worth getting rid of. If you're attitude is, 'well everyone else is doing it, or it won't solve everything, so **** it, I'm not gonna do it,' well you're just being a campaigner.

My plastic bags are re used to put food scraps in, now I will have to buy plastic bin liners. Nothing has change other than coles and woolies make more money.

I used to reuse them to take Dad's dirty clothes home from the old folks home, since the ban they now just buy a heap of plastic bags and put them in everyone's rooms. It doesn't really bother me that they have been banned but it will imo do far, far less to help the plastic problem than what a lot of people think. Though I guess something is better than nothing.
