Get Garland out of the backline, he was recruited as a forward so get him in there.

I will be expecting a call from Footy department Monday morning. ;-))))

Wasn't he recruited as a half-back player?

National Draft Selection 46 Colin Garland - Tall Forward, Tassie Mariners, Tas DOB: 28/04/88 Ht: 191 cm Wt: 85kg

"Colin's a bit of a surprise packet because he hasn't played much under-18 footy and only a few VFL games. He came into the system late and was a bit reluctant to come but through encouragement through the North Hobart footy club he had a go at senior level and later for the Mariners in the under-18's. He plays forward, mostly at full forward but I see him as being a third forward type player at AFL level. As he matures he could develop into key position and we believe he has enormous upside given the limited football he's played," said Tassie Devils general manager Scott Wade.

The thing to remember is that even if Col does become more of a regular fixture up forward, the defensive skills that he's acquired over the years will hold him in good stead up there.

His leading is down pat but the 1 on 1, reading the play, chasing, tackiling and spoiling (if caught behind) add strings to his bow.

I know this is a Garland thread, but geez Tom McDonald looks a footballer! Yes, needs some work on disposal, but he just looks like he fits. And this is part of the reason Neeld could afford to move Garland forward. Although not a masterstroke as some of us have been asking to move him forward for years, it was a move that probably won us the match.

Our big men have a lot of versatility now. Sellar held his own in defense last night, but can be moved forward or to the ruck. Clark can play forward or in the ruck, Watts has starred down back and can play all over the ground, Garland now can play back or forward and Tom McDonald has trained with the forwards and remains an option for attack or defence. Throw in Stef Martin who can play back, forward or in the ruck, and we have a lot of versatility with our big men.

Frawley - Out was once a few words that spelt the death knell for our footy side, not anymore...

yeah hes fat becoming one of y gaves. He is so good in the air and in the contest, and surprisingly good at ground level.

Has a massive engine too. He is going to be a real weapon for us, and it looks like his emergence is going to allow Garland to stay forward if thats the path Neeld takes.
