Now the big question is how Col will back up a performance like that.

My odds are:

Another top-quality, A-grade game: $3.25
A good, solid but unspectacular effort: $1.70
A decent contribution: $1.90
Below-par: $3.50
An absolute shocker: $6
N/A (failing to turn up due to being out on the sauce the night before): $ write your own ticket.

Dear Colin,
Please play like you did on Sunday when we play the St.Kilda Saints.
Thanks mate,
Sincerely,
Puckled

I just want to add that its the best individual game I have seen from a Demon since TJ in the 2002 final vs Adelaide.

But it was better.

I'm a huge Sylvia fan but it isn't THAT good.

Neitas numerous bags 2003-2006, including 9 v Richmond in 2004 and 8 v the Saints in 2006.

Hope Colin gets Baker this week, it would free up Flash a bit and I'd actually back Sylvia to beat Baker one on one if we can isolate that matchup.

I'd need to watch a replay, but did Sylvia go head to head with Lewis or did a juorno just make that up, because that would sour the performance a bit. The best thing I thought about Sylvia's performance was his use of the corridor. His goals in the 3rd were good, and he was a good target at half forward, but when he slipped into the midfield and ran hard (and fast) through the middle of the ground he was truly damaging.

Pretty impressed with his overall game, i thought he turned the ball over a bit in the first quarter, however his kicks aren't massive shockers, but as they can be low and hard, if they are slightly off they can cause easy turnovers. His 3rd quarter was magic though.

In terms of backing it up, i don't mind if he gets 20 possies, as long as 15 of them are quality kicks through towards the forwardline after a bit of run. He's got a good turn of speed, so as long he's using it to our advantage then that is great. Would like to see him get 4-5 tackles more often, as he's a superb tackler and in the top three with Macca and Whelan at our club.

I was think the same thing, he has a much stronger body then Davey & would not be affected as much by the physical pressure of Baker.

Although Davey has put on a lot of muscle & looks stronger then the last couple of years so I wouldn't mind giving him a chance to beat Baker & get the monkey of his back.

Am I the only one who thought the Lyon article was a puff piece and that all Melbourne supporters already knew and had discussed what he wrote?

I'd imagine there would be a lot of talk this week to Colin telling him he needs to keep playing like that and can't rest his laurels on 2-3 blinders a season.

Melbourne supporters aren't the only ones interested in such an article though, and to be honest most football op-eds are just longer versions of a lot the stuff you read on here.

His article about Pavlich the week before wasn't that dissimilar, you don't learn anything new.

The only interesting bit in Lyon's article was the comparison to Hodge IMO, even if I didn't exactly agree with it.

I cant see the similarities playing wise between McLean and Hodge, in that area they are very different.

But in terms of personality, its pretty evident.

Their both boys boys, same can be said for Sylvia to an extent.
