Did the young fella do enough to keep his spot for next week?

4 disposals, 2 tackles (one resulting in a free for), 1 goal - from not much game time.

Hope so - his nerves should be out of the way now, time for him to start building and getting some confidence up.

:)

If they decide not to take him to Melbourne this week, then they definitely should play him the following at home. I don't think its fair to bring a new bloke in for just 1 game - they need at least a couple to really find their feet. After mabye 2, 3 or 4 games he'll be due for a rest.

To me his game showed that he has promise but needs to develop his fitness and confidence. Personally I would not like to see him play at the MCG in front of a hostile crowd. Take him as an emergency to give him the experience.

I'd rather they rush Farmer back in should the board allow it to happen. The Pavlich, Tarrent & Farmer combination needs game time to gel should they make the finals.

Farmer will be back in round 13 - not before. I can't see them extending his extra "time-out" beyond the 6 weeks, though. Collard could learn a fair bit from Farmer in some game time at Souths during this time also, IMO.

Yes and I noticed a few things he did for the player with the ball that where good like taking his man out of the square for bell to take a shot.I do like them easing them in like warnock one on one off because it takes the pressure off for a week and they wont get tired before the end of the season like most young players seem to do.

i thought he looked a bit lost BUT having said that he needs time to develop. he should be given 5 games back to back and told go and do your best so he has a good chance to get his mind into the game...... he will be ok if he gets a fair go

Interesting point Gav, the flip side is throw him in and see how he goes. I tend to think throw him in - Friday night footy - Pies - MCG be good experience for him.

With Headland likely to miss and Bell playing so well in the middle I think Collard has to play Friday night.

Collard deserves his spot. One of my favourite highlights from the game last Friday was him going for goal after laying a tackle, and the crowd going silent. Then the players running over to embrace him once he kicked it :thumbsu: :)

In the West Robert Shaw said Des injury was better then first thought. So he is still a good chance to play this week :thumbsu:

They said Hasleby was a certainty last week. If Dessie doesn't train at close to 100% on Wednesday he should stay in Perth to make sure he is right for the week after.

I think Collard really struggled on friday night. I realize it was his first game, and for that reason people want to look for the positives in his game. However, I was at the game and it seemed as though he did not adapt to the pace of the game and at times looked lost while on the field. I think if sentimentality was put to one side, it must be said that Collard does not deserve a game next week based on his performance against the Saints. I think he may be a good long term prospect, but there is no point deluding ourselves into thinking he is at AFL standard at this point in time.
I agree GentlemanJeff.

Get ready to be shouted down though, I reckon.

Give him time and he'll be playing out there as if he has been his whole life. At AFL level I mean.
