So I think we are agreed that you wouldn't REALLY get what you think he's worth. Fair enough. I can't see the trade happening but with Donald McDonald shambling around Arden Street, anything could happen.

But we might take it anyway to get the better/extra draft picks.

Do you think North would be happy with that trade?

Nothing can be ruled out given some of our previous efforts during trade week, but if it was me in charge, I would polite tell you to get stuffed.

Harris is 27 early next season, so while a good player wouldn't be on our radar. Swallow might be of interest to us, but he's quite similar to some of our other inside mids so i think Sylvia is more valuable to us.

North don't have any young tall forwards that they'd give up, so i'd suggest it would have to be for a draft picks.

Maybe Their 2nd round pick (27) & 3rd round (43) for Sylvia & our 3rd round (35).

So we trade Sylvia for a pick upgrade (35 to 27) and a 3rd rounder (43), not sure if that's worth it for us, but we know we probably won't get what we think he's worth. That would give us 4 picks in the top 30
God no.
Sylvia is worth more then an 8 pick upgrade FFS.

Why are we talking about trading for Harris, there is not a hope in the world we would trade for Harris. We already have McLean, Jones and Valenti as in and under men, why would we want a 26 year old who is good but nothing special. If we are trading Sylvia it will be for a draft pick or someone under 22.

You traded for Brent Moloney. Compared to him Harris is Leigh Matthews. Harris has his great moments (usually against Hawthorn), but you're right in that you don't want him. You'd have to give up too much.

Let me guess, you saw one game?

Admittedly, there is a really good chance I missed the many games in the past 5 years that he has been sensational.

Your point being, that was in 2004 with a different coach and a team heading towards the finals. Plus in the next couple of seasons I think you will find that the difference between Harris and Moloney wont be much (beside against Hawthorn).

Obviously he is, if you read the post properly you would see that it was an 8 pick upgrade and a 3rd round pick.

Slyvia might be worth a 2nd round draft pick in a different year, but this year picks are at a higher premium so we'd struggle to get a 2nd rounder for him. So i was trying to suggest something that North might realistically offer, but again if you read the post properly then you have read that i said that it wasn't really enough but if we really wanted to trade him we might have to settle for something like that.

Trading players isn't about what they're worth, it's about what you get offered. If it's a suitable offer you accept, if it's not you reject it. The notion that players are worth this much or that much is a bit silly, players are only valued at what clubs will offer for them, then the club has to decide if they want to accept that offer.

So put you "God no" back in your pants and take things a little slower before you pull the trigger

In a sense I agree, it isn't always feasible for a club to get what it is they desire in a trade. Sometimes it is necessary to just take what is reasonable, even if it doesn't match your expectations.

However, players are clearly valued by their clubs in some way, whether that be a specific number/player or within a region. When you say players are valued at what is offered for them, in a sense yes, the other club values them that highly in terms of what they are willing to give away to acquire their services. The team possessing the player, however, will have an alternate valuation on the player, and that is what helps them to decide whether or not the trade is/is not acceptable.

The club's valuation basically determines whether a trade is accepted or not.

Solid performance today, good attack on the footy and chased hard. Had a monumental brain fade in the last but thats ok.

One of his better games this year and if he plays like this everyweek he will be worth a hell of a lot more than 3rd rounder and an 8 pick upgrade.

Agreed there master, pretty solid, but a few clangers. Seemed to play better when behind the ball in the midfield charging forward, unfortunately his skills weren't as good as he can do.

I think he will be trade bait, but probably won't be traded. Our biggest problem at the moment is that we don't have much quality in the 24-28 year old bracket. So trading him now, when he is yet to peak is a bit against our development.

I just don't know what to say anymore...

Was great today, except for a couple of clangers..

FFS Colin just pull your finger out and become the footballer that we all know you can be!

It's just SO frustrating

Just to many Clangers, simple as that... I think today really stamped (TRADE) on his for head.

Your Kidding yourself. The bloke hasn't had a full pre season since his been here. He's an gun!! Fair enough he hasn't set the world on fire, but he really needs to be fully fit. If Colin is traded, we are going 3 years backwards as a club, not to mention they will lose another member.
