Surely this is trying to stir the pot.
No credit to collingwood for not allowing them to play there best footy?
Collingwood played well, but Hawthorn had a down game.

Anywhere close to their best and they beat us by 10 goals.

Would the pot be less stirred if I just said hurr durr look Collingwood is just as good as Hawthorn here comes the dynasty

Might as well go fishing this winter. No point going to the footy then. ;)

You post they beat us by 60 goals but you arnt stirring the pot..... OK
Hawthorn are much better than collingwood but you should give credit where credit is due, that was probably collingwood's best performance of the year.

If you find no point going to the footy because we won't win the premiership that year that's up to you.

Dude.. Hawthorn have won 3 flags in a row and we finished 12th. There is some serious delusion on here about how good our team is, we are nowhere close to Hawthorn

Sorry for going off topic, but do you have any recommendations for things to do in Noosa? :p Looks like my family want to go on a holiday there. Too bad it wasn't last week... It would have been nice to catch a training session!:footy:
Nice holiday, enjoy.
Sorry, don't know enough of the area, but sunny things aplenty

Show me where I said we are as good as hawthorn, and I'm very realistic about where collingwood sit at the moment and hey need to get a lot better but credit needs to be given for the way collingwood played that night.
As usual you just put that negative spin on everything.

I do feel Hawthorn were vulnerable last season.
They got there, did the business, good on them.
But they looked shaky here and there and in a final, west coast took them to the sword.
If only, if only hawthorn pantsed them that night and west coast sworded them on GF day,
Darn timing...
But they are a little shaky, time to rattle that tree and (hope) they get tree rot and someone, anyone (ok anyone but Carlton) win the thing.

I was watching with a couple of Hawks supporting mates, and at the start of the last qtr they both said it was Collingwoods game to lose, and the only reason the Hawks were clinging on was due to our errant goal kicking.

They were right, dammit. We really should have won that game, and won it convincingly.
Well that is with most of our Close Games that we lose. Our Goal Kicking Lets us down

So how much better are Hawthorn than us in a goals sense? I said 10 goals and u accused me of stirring the pot.

So obviously they're only a few goals better than us then?

I'm just bringing people back to reality, we have a long way to go

Go back and read your post.... You said 60 goals!
Hawthorn have been better than us since 2012 by a fair stretch, however I think the gap is closing and think we will go close to beating them this year.

At the moment or equivalent to last season they rightly could claim a winning score of say two goals a quarter, when they win. Likely ten matches they win say eight times.

But 2016, that's a new kettle of fish, suggest we'd go better by a couple of goals and I have a feeling they will go a bit wobbly so decrease by a couple of goals.
Do the maths = one goal per quarter to the good them over us.

But I'd love to be badly wrong (in our favour naturally) and they go to pieces and we earn our way to finals.

But that's a long way off.

But the future belongs to those that prepare for it.... That's the thinking today.

Tomorrow I can easily shift, such is my way  :D

(In other words, I can't stand Hawthorn anymore, enough of them winning already  )

Just on Hawthorn game.

We were at our peak while they were going through the form slump and had a few injury concerns.
We gave it a good crack but at the same time they were clearly there for the taking.
But given the fact every side is beatable when not on their game people are getting carried away thinking that effort showed we bridged the gap.
Hawthorn in full flight would have had a fairly comfortable win, no ifs or buts about it.
Poor kicking kicking cost us that game no doubt but the arrogant team selection had a larger bearing on the game IMO.
And just as an aside I spoke to Jack Gunston the next day and he thought we had them but didn't put them away and seemed to run out of puff the last 10 minutes.

Anyone know when the next open training session at the Holden Centre is?

EDIT: While I'm here, any word on a date for a potential intraclub game? Chances it'll be a twilight event again?

Form slump? They won their 4 games leading up to us by an average of 46 points lol. Then they proceeded to belt Fremantle by 80, Sydney by 80 and Carlton by 140 in the 3 games after us. We gave them their biggest headache between their round 8 loss to Sydney and their round 18 loss to Richmond when they were in red hot form. No one got near them between those two losses except us.

2009? In 2009 we had played finals for the previous three years, including a preliminary final in 2007...

I think it feels more like 2006 - disappointing year the year before, but got good kids who will develop further through the year.
You certainly do make a valid point, but I feel if a few things went our way, 2015 could have easily been like 2008. At the beginning of 2009 I didn't expect that we would finish top 4, but I thought we had a small chance. Just the way I feel this year. Also the current list I believe has a lot more potential then what I thought the list at the beginning of 2006 had, considering the 2nd last finish in 2005.

I wish we could have a 1 week form slump like that :)

Now now, let's not baffle the masses with the numbers.
I think sometimes people tend to see their own teams more critically than at times warranted.

I'm assuming the players are back from Queensland this week so there could be an open training session on Wednesday.

I think with Hawthorn there's a psychological thing both ways, they know they can beat us and we lack the confidence to win games we should. We came close this year, but a couple of things didn't go our way and to beat Hawthorn we need to be at our best. I do think it's easing though.

As all great sides do, Hawthorn have an aura about them, but once they start dropping off they'll become more vulnerable.

For us, that we had other close losses around that time suggests we weren't necessarily just overawed by Hawthorn, but more the close finishes.

I'm looking forward to see how we go this year both against Hawthorn and also in our ability to close games out. Finding the confidence/composure to win those games will highlight that we've taken the next step in our development.
