Might be in real strife if a club bids on young Daicos early in this year's draft, with their 1st round pick belonging to GWS this yeat as a result of last year's draft night trade.

Will have to trade some more fringe players and possibly a big name or two to get back into this year's draft.

Their salary cap mismanagement has set them back years and forced an needless and premature rebuild.

Things will get worse for the Pies before they get better imo

I was looking at this tonight. The current picks won’t be enough to match a bid at 5 let alone an earlier one as expected. So it’s either trade out some players to bring in points or go into deficit 2022.

Not to mention they have to also pay for Dib.

Ned strikes again!

Seriously, there was no net positive gain trading the pick last year, especially given who they got rid of. It was always a likely chance to be a top 5. They were always going to trend down the ladder not up it, so they got less last year than they would have this year for it.

The trade with GWS was to get some kids in to turn the PR battle around.

Lol with no first rounder, they can't even tank to get in front of a bid.

There's often an element of opportunism about this stuff but some of those age profile numbers are a bit of a worry?

The Pies aren't in a great spot list wise, that is no secret. A lot of cap money tied up in Moore, DeGoey and Grundy and only one of those is paying off. That player is RFA at the end of next year IIRC. So is DeBoganey. Paying Treloar for five more years to play with the current top Victorian side. Still paying Beams this year, are they paying Phillips or Stevenson?

Very few first rounders in the past few years. Lots of ageing mids, which is OK if you are contending so they would want to turn this season around pretty quick.

Unlucky for them, they can’t amass heaps of picks like the rules were altered last year for the list changes.

They need to take as many kids as they have picks.

They might need to take Daicos and like 3-4 70+ picks lol.
lol that would be amusing
daicos and 3-4 speculative late players

Biggest issue they have is no trading commodities either. Sort of burned that bridge last year.
Players with value -> Grundy, Moore, JDG...maybe Adams.
Can't afford to trade them.

list is looking pretty precarious.

As it currently stands the Pies only hold four point bearing picks in this years draft totalling 1194 points, with discount only enough to match pick 9 or lower.

Pies also need to have four primary list vacancies on draft night to use those four picks as points.

Traded away this years first and second to bolster their haul in last years draft to save face on the fire sale. Now in a very ordinary position for this years draft so the five players they took in the 2020 draft would need to deliver.

To be honest, if all they get out of this draft is daicos it'll still be a better draft than some have

Paying Phillips this year but that’s all I think.

This is just like us with JUH. They will find a way to get points.
difference is the squad you had
You also managed to get JUH & land Treloar.

Pies do not have the quality of Macrae, Bont, Dunkley, Smith, Libba, Naughton, English, etc.
Nor do i think they find a club dumb enough to trade an elite player for peanuts.

Their 2022 draft is gonna end up taking a hit.

If it pushes them back like 1 spot then it's still not an awful outcome. I'm jealous of their position. Last decent player we had come through FS/academy was Hawkins back when John Howard was PM

They’re getting a guaranteed potential pick 1 regardless of where they finish. This is not bad news for Collingwood as much as you desperately want it to be.
