Did not realize just how grim the state of this list actually was. With Nathan Murphy likely gone, they don't have an AFL-standard replacement.

Pendlebury, Sidebottom and Howe on the brink of retirement.
Crisp, Mihocek, Elliott, Mitchell and Hoskin-Elliott all 30+
Zero(0) good key-forwards. McStay is serviceable at best and he's out for the year.

They are due for a pretty serious rebuild, and you have to wonder if they can complete one with Moore, Maynard and De Goey (all 28 this year) still firing.

Top-up route should be an obvious no-go with the total dearth of key-position players.

Looks like they won their flag just in time.

They should've looked at key position players. Schulz is a good player but not really an area of need.

But they need to go hard for players who will be good near term. Their 24-28 group is quality and good enough to compete up the pointy end. Add a good key position player and develop a couple of kids and they'll be up for another 4 years.

Looking like a premiership hangover ,tho still early days.

That said if things do go pear shaped and they miss the finals it’s all good as they ll likely have a top 10 pick with their first to start the rebuild….

I would gladly take the mother of all hangovers for a Premiership. :D :trophy:

You have their first round pick.

Pies Top Pick is Freo's

Daicos has a flag, will his career now be similar to the majority of Shane Crawfords ( 1996 to 2006) and Jonathan Browns ( 2005 to 2015). Both played finals only once or twice in a 10 year period

Yeah it must be shocking to have lived those careers that both Crawf and Browny did....Brownlows, Multiple AA's, club captaincy and B+F's, And premiership players??? Poor Browny only won 3 of them.....You know I reckon young Nick's pretty happy with his first 50 games.

It'd be worse if Nick had to survive like Bobby Skilton or Robbie Flower did, being the best of the best and only getting to play ONE final in an entire career

They are both great careers, but neither player played as many finals as deserved due to the talent surrounding them for the majority of their careers.
If not for Geelong kicking inaccurately in 2008 grand final, Crawfords career is pretty similair to Nathan Jones career.

Which year did Nath Win his Brownlow again?

Collingwood have this really weird list structure.

They're the oldest team not because they have the most "old blokes", but because a huge bulk of their list is between 24 and 33. There are very thin indeed in the below 24 yo stakes, with a lot of rookies or players that have been hampered by injury. Daicos and McCreery are the only two players under 24 that have really established themselves.

Even other 'old' teams like Geelong, Melbourne and Brisbane have significantly more under 24 players on their list than Collingwood.

They really need to hit the draft or go for trading some 20-22 yo in the next few years.

Decent 21yo are not easy to find.

Then again, Max Holmes is out of contract I suppose :thumbsupv1:

Think there could be quite a turnover this offseason. Good chance at multiple retirements.
They really shouldn't have traded their 2024r1 in my view, it will be hard for them to improve in 2025 ( assuming they win say 12 games this year) without at least 2 quality free agents they get for free.
Good om them for winning 2023 flag, but those wasted picks on Beams and losing pick 2 in 2021 draft are going to hurt the quality of their 2024 to 2030 teams in my view.

Pendlebury will retire.
You would think elliot might join him.
Sidebottom 50/50 to go on.
If i was collingwood id be 'retiring' cox and i could see one or both of howe or whe being retirements.
Murphy will be a medical retirement.
And you would assume some guys like carmichael, begg, kreuger (sadly not durable) and richards will drop off the list.
Id personally delist markov too but they probably wont.

so they could turnover a lot of spots.

A lot to play out with Pendlebury and Sidebottom. Both have started slowly but could work into the season.

Elliott has played a strong two weeks, there's no reason to suggest he's done yet.
Howe and Hoskin-Elliott likely retirements at this stage. Howe becoming too slow to defend and isn't a solution up forward. Hosk is logical, turning 31 and in the last few picked in the team. Murphy retirement likely.
Cox won't be retired, and if he was chopped he'd be picked up by another club. He is a competent ruck and down the line target.

Cox is contracted next season anyways

Pendles more likely to go around again Next Season.

The 2 Most Likely to Retire for me are Sidebottom and Howe Espically IF we go Back to Back

There is going to be the mother of all cliffs coming in the coming years.

I think a lot will depend on how our season unfolds and also how they personally hold up.

Go close or win it and I reckon pendles and a couple others will go again form permitting, wheels fall off or go out week 1 of finals I reckon we may see a deeper chop.
