Data from footywire. To check the draft order see the thread here.

Footywire says: "While we make every effort to keep up to date with player contracts, it is likely that our data may at times be out of date, incomplete or inaccurate. If you find any player contracts that need updating, please let us know using our brand new contract submission form."

The term "hit the draft" is very loose with its meaning. Forgive my ignorance but I always took it to mean delisting/retiring lots of players and taking lots of draft picks, and I suspect many think as I do. If you used the expression "hit the pointy end of the draft" or "target the first round of the draft" etc that would have helped my ignorance.
Its the 1st 2nd even early 3rd round selections for me not the 4th and rookie draft which is what you've been forced to do

I don't think your current list strategy is sustainable now (what do I know though) as you haven't got the same level of talent 22-30 that you did 3 years ago when you won the flag coming through

Pies 32+ playing every week when fit who will need to be replaced in the next 2 years:

Elliott/Pendles/Sidebottom/Crisp/Howe

Pies who will be 30+ next year who will start natural decline and need replacing in 3-5 years

JDG/Maynard/McStay/Cameron/Framption/Membrey/Moore

Can the Pies fans please let me know who replaces these guys on the list? Steene looks solid enough to replace Cameron but outside of that not sure who else and that is 12/23 players to turn over in a short period of time

Because we are replacing these players over the next 1 to 3 years its hard to name exact names because who knows what the list looks like, but here goes.
Howe = McInnes/Cochran/Jiath/Ryan
Elliott = Harrison/Saxena/Hill
Sidebottom = Steele or Allan
Crisp = Swadling/Anderson/Prindable
Pendlebury= same a Crisp or we move someone like Perryman
Membrey= West/Howes/McCarthy
McStay = Buller or the same list as Membrey

But add to that other possibilities with draft/trades or free agency (usually 2 trades per year).
The rest are at least 3 years away in my opinion so who knows what our list looks like.
Now the next post will be something along the lines of "those guys are all unproven etc" and I will happily show you how we have replaced players over the last 5 years to finish top 4, 3 out of the last 4 years.

You might be right. We may fall into a hole and or end up in 14th-10th position for the next 5 years. Its hard to tell. Maybe our young talent is really bad and we cant recruit any decent trades or free agency players.

Having said that going consistently to the pointy end of the draft doesnt work either more often then not. This site is good to work out the value of draft picks. Its not perfect because drafting has improved over the years. But ever players picked in the draft between 6 to 10 only have had a 60% chance of playing 100+ games (excluding recent drafts).

I take it reading comprehension isn't your strong point

I said multiple picks inside the 30s-40s not tope 10 picks
So if I address a point you haven't made, is it possible im not addressing you? Another possibility to reflect on is rhetorical exagerration. Also I am overseas, and while I enjoy travelling the water in Paris does not agree with me, and I have slightly crook guts.

I'd add we have generally struck out with our 20s and 30s, our guru Hine was a master of the MSD and rough diamonds generally but tier 2 types, we have had bad luck with.

The worst nightmare for Leppa was the arse falling out of the middle tier of their list, which has clearly happened so far this season.

Mcreery - What has happened here? Do they look to trade him out at seasons end?
JDG - Should have been moved last year when they floated him. Would be lucky to get a pick in the 20s now.
Quaynor - Honest citizen, nothing more.
Lipinski - Not sure how he keeps getting picked
Perryman - Been okay. Hasn't justified the pay packet
Houston - Started the season okay but is like an orchid, needs conditions to be perfect. The trade looks horrible as both Noble and Richards are currently better players.
Long - VFL player at best
Schultz - Does some good things and some horrible things. Wouldn't be in the best 20 small forwards in the comp

None of these players have improved or gone to the next level. It means the older blokes are untouchable even when they have dropped off. Jamie Elliott hasn't hit the wall, he has slammed into it.

The underpinning issue here is they have no kids. If theres no one putting pressure on the old guys from the middle tier, and from the kids onto the middle tier, things just stay the same.

Only A graders really Daicos x 2 and Cameron (who was destroyed tonight and has been multiple times this season), and then they will persist with Moore and Maynard until they physically can't go anymore.

50/50 game on Thursday night and the blowtorch goes on the loser enormously. should be 90k there.

Richard’s and Noble wanted out. Since Houston arrived I have not liked some of his fitness and team attributes. It can yet work.

Richards only wanted out because he was told he would be behind Bobby and Elliott. That has also blown up in their face (not all collingwoods fault there).
I really liked Richards and didn’t want him to go. Great little player, skills and pace. He was as behind Bobby and Billy. It was true. He was getting games and was offered a contract. Port and Richard’s have done well.
