We’ve traded them out over last two seasons. Didn’t know it was a rule, thought you can do as you please with your draft picks.
I think the AFL try to stop endless trading of draft picks this way.

C’wood have traded their firsts for Schultz & Houston - was ‘25 included for Houston?

I think that’s 3 first rounders already traded their last couple of years.

Its only the last 2 seasons we traded our 1st rounders out. We took our previous 1sts. We got H Demattia in 2023 (pick 25 but still the last 1st rounder) and E Allan in 2022.

There is a 2/4 rule.
You need to use two 1st rounders at the draft every 4 years.
So unless Mccarthy gets a 1st round bid, you cant trade a F1

The rule was made to save clubs from themselves.

Clubs must use two first round selections every four years. Clubs must have board approval to trade any first round selections. For second year only: Clubs must hold the full suite of draft selections (2nd and 3rd round selections) to trade their first round selections and vice versa.

Given the first round will go well into the 20s. McCarthy a chance to go first round. But probably touch and go.
Yeah, not something you can know for sure at this point.
In any case, I don't think we'll be trading our F1 in a better draft for anyone, less alone petracca, who seems more likely to Crows or GC

I thought the cliff came in 2022. The evergreen years of those 30+ players over the following three seasons has been remarkable. However, you can't fight gravity forever. The bottoming out will probably be worse now, but it is worth it seeing you got that flag. If the Tassie team comes in it will complicate things further.
2022 and 2024 were not good years. I don’t like the dropping off. I think of a cliff as more significant. We have not been successful using top end picks. The Tasmanian team will take players, picks and reduce the pool. It may be a cliff, but better than I thought at this stage.

I believe the AFL can allow it at their discretion but there has not been many requests. If a NGA or FS is matched first round it resets. Our NGA is possible, FS unlikely.

Seems Melbourne will push him to one of Adelaide or Suns if he is leaving as that’s where we’ll get the best value.

You can apply for discretion. Not exactly sure what the AFLs parameters are around that.
Listening to I think is was Gettable or maybe someone from that show, Mcguane now considered late to rookie and McCarthy late first to second round.

I think the exceptions are usually like JHF where a 19 year old, one year (and a top pick) removed from the draft requests a trade. But the exceptions are rare.

Thanks Jen.

Yeah, I personally think our priorities lie in re-signing Billy but that likely comes at the cost of Mihocek out the door.

Steven May looks like he might be coming over potentially so that’s a 2 year defensive back up. They’ll grab McCarthy and McGuane at the draft and hopefully next season get more games into West, Allan, Harrison and co.

Next years FA is where I think Collingwood will snare another big fish.

Next year is when we'll target FA. We'll go fairly cheap this year with Buller (and.... looks like May) then go to the draft for Mccarthy, Mccguane, Saxena and Hopefully grab Kerr in the rookie draft. Without Mitchell and Macrae, we'd need another big bodied mid

There is also an issue with FA. There is no draft cost but each FA added tends to be on above market salary. Has the potential of creating an imbalance when a number are on your list. But also could be a nice place to be.

They lost Checkers and got older. You would suspect they would drop off in 2026. How far remains to be seen.
Without checking i read somewhere they won only 2 or 3 of their last 10 H+A matches. Against the bottom couple.
They looked to tire out considerably. They did well to manage as many as they could throughout the season to qualify.
The bye before the finals did them wonders though.

The focus on the pies ages gets very old very quickly. Collingwood was doomed a few years ago, just before the premiership. Checkers, Cox, Mitchell, WHE and Marcov ain’t a bad cull. I expect a few older players will fall to the side during the season. Top four ain’t bad, it at least makes Cornes far from right as you would expect. There are lower teams with heaps of young top picks who only have the capacity to line up for more and underachieve. Our injuries this year were not to the old folk.
