Well I got that Impression by you saying that IF we don't get the Ball out of the Middle he can lose his Man.

I just think some people been harsh on Grundy because Witts has taken a step in his Ruck Work
I think you feel that way because Grundy is one of your favourites, not much different to what some say about Witts but I wouldn't automatically think he is a liability.
Or another example when Blair, Goldsack or Macaffer (I like all three players) are talked about I never ask whether they a liability but with the youth that we have recruited, I will have to accept that they may not be in our best 22. Sad but that is footy and careers come to an end eventually.

I don't take it personal if Witts or Macaffer are talked about in a negative way, that is football, you just hope that they play well enough to see them in the seniors and if not, I will go to Vic Park. No big deal.

I think that it is fantastic that we have three potentially great options. Something I can't remember ever happening at Collingwood.

Besides it is only two matches, Grundy can come out and play a blinder next week and Witts drops down a spot.

And i am one of those. Is he before White ? You would think so based upon the last games. But neither are in contention for best 22.

Of course hes in contention. Form will be the driver. Massive competition and lots of permutations but just one of many permutations might be a specialist ruck (Witts/Grundy) backed up by two ruck forwards sharing the second ruck responsibility (two of Moore/Cox/Gault/White).

Uphill battle for him given the competition but I'm happy to watch him play well.

For what its worth if round one was next week I'd pick Grundy Moore and then it would be a toss-up between Gault and Cox or perhaps Witts

I can't believe that I am saying it, but I kind of agree with you. The other night it was like there was a deliberate focus by the team not to kick to the pockets. Those same pockets that Cloke leads to time and time again. I hope that Cloke does play up the ground as they have been saying because I think that him being inside the 50 is now detrimental to the forward structure. Not to mention him being up the ground gives us someone who may actually mark the ball when we do our generic long kick to a contest after a behind.

Williams Brown Frost
Langdon Cloke Varcoe

Thats a tough back line to break. Strong and brutal. Time they weren't so soft down there.

Grundy is better with his Taps then some people give him Credit for
td l hope you don't think that l dislike grundy because l don't. out of the two Grundy and witts, grundy has the more talent of the two
but both have a lot to improve a pone, just that witts so far has narrowed the gap between the two and has so far this preseason has improved the most to me. l get that grundy is a favourite of yours but like to objective and not give praise if l think it is not warranted.
l still hope both can make the team and work well together because if they can, l recon they could be the difference this in making finals or not

I have. He's shot.
this season will tell, l have not yet. just don't think cloke has the nouse about him or the athletic ability
to play chb. and if he does and fails you do know it wont be bucks that gets blamed it will be you

He has certainly put his hand up if their would be a spot free due to injury. When all are available, not so sure yet. I assume that he won't be considered a 2nd ruck which seems to be the key for the 3rd fwd.Unless we make room for that 2nd ruck somewhere else. Moore should be protected from ruck while he is still developing physically . That 2nd will be then Grundy/Witts/Cox. White has fallen out of favor for me.
Do agree a long time since we had selection head aches in our fwd line.
And speaking of form. If Cloke misfires , would his spot ever come under threat?

I would love us to have the best midfield in the game and finish top 4. We are a long way off that though.
Are we? I'd say we're not there yet, but a 'long way off' is more what you'd say about Carlton, Essendon etc imo.

We all think Grundy is developing well and looks like being a good player. But not all of us are blinded by the Grundy love that we can't appreciate what Witts brings to the table, some skills of which are better at the moment than what Grundy is offering. I know you have your favourite players but even they have their flaws and drawbacks.

Before we get into the "So what your saying is..." No I don't think Grundy should play in the VFL all year. No I don't think we should trade Grundy because Witts is the best ruckman ever. What I am saying is to try and look at things objectively and understand that whichever player is playing better at the time should get the number 1 ruck position and maybe throw a bit of love Witts way when he does something good.
So what you're Saying is We should trade Grundy for a 5th rounder because he's the worst Ruckman in the League and is a Total bust?

Can play the game with freedom. No need to have shots at goal how good would that be?
How many frees against do you want in our back half?
Who should be our #1 fwd. Cox? Moore? Gault? White?
He should be played fwd this season and if he can't do that, too bad for him.
Next year we can entertain that thought of him playing back with a new contract though :) And same for White

If Gault and Moore SHARED second ruck then Moore would not be overly exposed. Just a thought.

Clokes spot will come under threat if his form isnt up to it especailly as our depth builds and alternatives become available. But his form in my opinion has never been that bad that he needed to be dropped in the past. I doubt its anything to worry about in the near term. All this player development can only be god for Clokes game.

You are right it's still Pre-Season so who going to play Majority as 2nd Ruck is still not Decided and might be 2nd half of the Season when that call is made

Witts might have more Potential as a Ruckman but Grundy has more Potential as a Footballer

We would have 3 out of 4 Witts/Grundy/Cox/White on the sidelines for the benefit of having Moore and Gault up forward? Surely not.

I must admit that I thought Grundy would develop more quickly than he has done. In particular I thought his marking would be much more decisive and I reckon his ruck work has actually deteriorated. Perhaps I should change my username to TheNotQuiteAsGreatGrundyAsIHadHoped but I guess it's a bit too much of a mouthful.

Hold onto your username, for a while longer at least! He's 21 years old, had 200 more hitouts last year than his previous year, took nearly twice as many marks. It'd be fantastic if he could kick more goals, but I think he's developing quite well and will continue to add some more strings.

And yes, TheNotQuiteAsGreatGrundyAsIHadHoped really is too much of a mouthful.:thumbsu:
