G'day,

Have been itching to post this ever since our season ended circa round 7, finally thought it would be appropriate to start the ball rolling now. After seeing something similar on the Saints board (https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/st-kilda-all-time-draft.1083920/) a few years ago, i'm hoping to find posters to participate in a draft, the pool being any person to pull on the black and white stripes. After everyone has selected a best 18, a poll will be created to determined which poster has the best team.

Rules
1. A player will only be judged on deeds done in the Black and White.

2. No time limit for picks. With regards to work commitments, it's probably unreasonable to assume that everyone can be on the same schedule and be able to pull the trigger on their next selection as soon as the previous selection has been made (myself included). If anyone is really dragging their feet, we will just rely on good old fashioned peer pressure through tagging. With 198 players to pick though it would be nice to move through the rounds quite quickly, after you've posted your selection, tag the next poster as a courtesy.

3. Feel free to write a few sentences to justify your selection! It'll make it easier to push your case for voting for the best team at the end.

2. You will have 48 hours to make your choice after the preceding poster has selected. If you aren't posting or lurking most days, please think carefully about applying.
3. Initial draft order will be determined by random and subsequent rounds will follow snake order (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12,12,11,10 ect.).
4. All players, past and present, are eligible.

This seems like a great idea but I go hot and cold on this site. I'm all over it for weeks and then lose interest for months. I'll be watching with interest

Pick a best 18 that tries to be as true as possible to the position/s that the player made his name in. Within reason of course, no problems putting a Steele Sidebottom in a forward pocket, bit dicey if Jarryd Blair is lining up in the ruck though. Every player picked is judged against his contemporaries, not how they would perform in today’s game. Syd Coventry’s height in regards to modern ruckman is irrelevant, he was a champion ruckman in the 20s and 30s and is judged on that.

Now that it’s been 24 hours since I created this thread, the 11 are locked in.

Thought we’d leave the weekend to get any queries and questions answered and clarified to make sure everyone on the same page. I’ll randomly assign the draft order Sunday night (https://www.draftordergenerator.com) and we can start Monday.

Thanks for everyone who has agreed to participate, any questions or suggestions on how to make this a success are most welcome.

Just a couple of questions, how / where do we keep track of our own team and how do we keep track of players chosen by others?

I recon everyone just keeps a track of their own team (copy, paste and update from their previous selection). That way you can chuck players in the positions you want. I’ll update the OP with everyones selections as they come in.
 
Ill give it a crack, could be fun!

Edit: just to throw up some ideas
- instead of a fixed 48 hours should the time to make selection be end of following day (11:59pm)

E.g person X makes a selection and 5pm on Monday, person Y has until 11:59pm tuesday night.

Person Y makes a selection 10am Tuesday, person Z has until 11:59pm Wednesday

Person Z makes a selection 2pm Tuesday, Person A has the same deadline of 11:59pm Wednesday.

This will ensure atleast a pick everyday and means that as long as entrants look each day there will be no missed selections.

If someone misses their deadline, the next pick will be 24 hours, so person A hasn't submitted by 11:59pm Wednesday, person B has a cutoff time of 11:59pm Thursday.

Idea 2:
- People can prepare an auto-picked list of ~5-10 players. If they miss their deadline the list is checked and first player that is available is auto picked. This could be managed by someone who isn't an entrant that is willing to volunteer.

Ill gladly be an emergency if someone withdraws prior to starting.

Or if you like I can update via excel and send an update every couple of days or so, more frequent potentially?

That way you can see all teams and which players have been chosen by whom side by side. I'll even list by position if everyone just adds that detail to their post...

Will also make it easier to collate at the end.

Sorry mate, but you are first emergency if anyone pulls out.

I like your first idea, it gives at the very least one pick a day, with 198 selections it’ll need to move reasonably quickly. A three strike method maybe, if you miss a deadline you get three seperate 24 hour extensions to make a selection. After the additional 24 hours is up and no selection has been made, the first poster not in the draft can respond and choose a player and what position they’ll occupy. For example Jason Wild can line up at FF.
