Collingwood and Richmond, who has the more feral supporter base?

Our 2021 and 2022 seasons were dogshit. Still 100k. Try again.

2021 you were coming off a flag and this year your supporters were telling anyone who'd listen you'd win the flag.

We even had that smug flog Jack Riewoldt try and tell us that nobody would want to face Richmond in the finals.

The fact is it took a premiership or two for your supporters to come out of the woodwork.

I've seen discussions on here regarding who has more supporters out of Collingwood and Richmond but in my opinion, a topic worth a thread of its own discussion is the question regarding who has the most feral supporter base out of the two clubs?

Collingwood and Richmond are two of the biggest clubs. Fact.
Collingwood and Richmond have two of the most feral supporter bases. Fact.

Which club do you think has the more feral supporter base?
Richmond by the length of Punt Road. Brains the size of split peas.

The Richmond band-wagoners by a country mile.
I know right. Richmond had only the 3rd highest membership and the highest attendance in the AFL after 37 years in the wilderness. The most loyal supporter base in the AFL by a country mile.
Perhaps rather than having you backside handed to you in this thread, you should stick to infernally whinging at Victorians for not doing enough to win your club the success you feel it entitled but too incompetent and lazy to earn.

I was at the end of season Richmond Essendon game the year that Essendon were penalised for the drugs circus There was a ground announcement asking Essendon supporters to stay after the game so the players could show their appreciation for the fans support. The Essendon supporters went home and it was the Tigers supporters who cheered the Essendon players as they went around the boundary including the whole Richmond cheer squad who gave the Essendon players a huge show of support. I was proud of the supporters that day

I think not being a foundation member of the competition, has a lot to do with the Richmond inferiority complex. The Tigers are a bunch of johnny come latelies. Carlton, Collingwood, Essendon and Melbourne are the traditional powerhouses of the competition. Geelong of course have foundation member status as well. So yeah there you go, Richmond are just blow ins to the competition.

North have had record membership the last 2 years.
Yep, like they did successively in each of their grand final years 1997, 1998 and 1999 (spiked by over 43% across those three years), before then dropping back to levels below the 1999 figure for every year until 2006 (the year after they finished 5th).

That's a top effort for 2022, but don't think North are immune to bandwagoners either.

Why are they so insecure when they won 3 flags in 4 years and have record crowds and membership numbers?

They have not had record crowds. This is the greatest mistruth ever. In fact they have not been close to record crowds

  • Collingwood have the two highest Home Season Attendance averages in history
  • Collingwood have 5 of the top 7 Home Season Attendance averages in history
  • Collingwood have the 6 highest Away season Attendance averages in history
  • Collingwood have 8 of the top 10 Away season attendance averages in history
Now for the incredible one
  • Collingwood have the 6 biggest Home and Away Season attendance averages in history (ASTOUNDING)
  • Collingwood have the 8 of the 9 biggest Home and Away Season attendance averages in history (ALSO ASTOUNDING)
  • Collingwood have the highest Grand Final attendance in history
  • Collingwood have the 7 biggest Home and Away Crowds in history
  • Collingwood have 9 of the top 10 biggest Home and Away Crowds in History (More than ASTOUNDING)
  • Collingwood have 16 of the top 20 biggest Home and Away crowds in History
  • Collingwood have drawn over 92,000 against Melbourne, Hawthorn, Richmond and Essendon.
  • Richmond have only ever played over 92,000 in Home and Away once and of course that was because Collingwood was playing.
Collingwood have drawn 1.3 million through the gates in a season
Collingwood have drawn over 1.2 million through the gates 6 times
- Richmond have never drawn over 1.2 million people

'Record crowds' (for lowly Richmond)...

Seriously, like that matters in the AFL.

Strange claims to bring to this thread. Out of interest, how many Grand Finals have Collingwood won in the last 64 years? I wonder if this would help to explain why it is Richmond who holds the most consecutive MCG finals(non-Grand Finals) crowds over 90k with 7 in an as yet unbroken run, whilst Collingwood finals have never produced more than 2 of these in succession during the AFL era. Neither has any other club by the way so don’t feel too bad about it, your Pies are still very much part of the AFL peloton chasing the great club.

But your club’s home and away record, nobody can talk that down, one of the truly great home and away clubs. 🤣

Since 1959

Collingwood 1 Grand Final win and 49 finals losses. A ratio of 1:49.

Richmond 8 Grand Final wins and 16 finals losses. A ratio of 1:2.

You probably have a bit of work to do there, given Richmond are a roughly 25 times better finals team than Collingwood. You could correct this by winning 24 Grand Finals without losing another final however. Best of luck with that. 😉. No wonder every campaigner turns up to your home and away games and no bastard wants to see you in finals. 😁

The lesson on all this... just be completely shite for 50% of your existence, and avoid playing finals at ALL costs unless you've spent 20 odd years building to contend.

1:2 ratio v. 1:49 ratio, yet still behind in the premiership tally?

😮😮😮
