Ok, bear with me because I've been to a long footy lunch this arvo.
But Collingwood are painted whores. There's nothing wrong with that, and indeed all the clubs are in the same boat.
The AFL is the pimp, the clubs are the whores and we the fans are the johns lining up to pass over our money for the chance to feel something we can't otherwise get a chance to feel.
We kid ourselves that for the players and the club, what we have is special. That it means something. That we aren't just a paycheck, lining up woth predictable and ultimately banal demands that they can meet by exchanging some dignity fpr lucre.
The club(s) lie to us, fake with us, abd pander to us. But none of it means anything from their perspective. Like all people, they have their own individual hopes and dreams and like most people, few of those dreams resolve around tue people they have to outwit in order to get their paycheck.
This is the same as it's ever been. It only becomes an issue when:
a) you start to believe the bullshit rather than keeping a clear view of the financial-emotional transaction that is occurring, or.
b) the whore, through ineptitude or circumstance, is caught out telling falsities that obviously are not true and ends up shattering the consensual illusion on which satisfaction and remuneration relies.
