Collingwood Draft Discussion

Have faith in the Hine.

We have Cook and Stanley who were underage players last year, so basically this will be their 1st year.

We have these young midfielders:

Pendles
Daisy
H Shaw
R Shaw
Swan
Egan
Didak
Illes
Cook
Stanley

We are building for the future. You can pick a midfielder next year and they could come straight in. Talls take time-2 to 3 years.
jeez we have to many mids we might trade 1 next year!

we still have 3 picks in the rookie draft and 1 in the pre-season draft

i'd go a ruckman in PSD, 1 ruckman and 2 midfielders in the rookie draft and for danny nicholls (midfielder) to get promoted in 2006 while dawes(pick 28) is recovering from his knee injury

yeah good call.

Farran Ray just ran off Thomas with ease, and put considerable distance between them over the 40-50m. Grab yourself a video again, and watch closely. There were several other revealing incidents as well in other games. Thomas's endurance is obviously an issue, but something he can work on. Thomas's great strength, is as an opportunist in the forward line. He knows how to position himself to receive the ball out of a pack, and has very good disposal, and is a reasonable kick for goal. His weaknesses are endurance, lack of burst speed, and a tendency to avoid heavily contested situations. He just doesn't like getting the hard ball, which is OK I guess, so long as his other attributes are good, which they are. Thomas is also a great mark considering his small stature. Last year I ranked him #12. This year he'd go around #34. Pendlebury is just a much better prospect. :)

Not sure why I am responding because I know you are only stiring up crap. What do the names Voss, Hird, Buckley, Roo, Harvey and west mean to you?? Thomas has more speed than all these blokes and was the most courageous young player we picked last year. He is quick but speed can be overated. ALong with murphy he had the best footy smarts of all the players from that draft and that will make him a midfielder. I am not sold on pendles(despite his class) because of that reason, he is pretty soft at the moment but as for Thomas there is only 1 question mark and that is his endurance.

What issues?

I rememember looking at the Adelaide website a couple of years back, and literally every player but Ken McGregor and Tyson Edwards had the exact same hairstyle - Short back and sides, little flick up at the front.

The world is a boring place when everyone looks the same.

Good to see Adelaide has finally let go of the mullet if this is true. Maybe whoever owned the barber shop in Adelaide finally died and sold the business to an out of towner.

Can anyone confirm Brad ********'s current dimensions? The CTV highlights has him at 78 kgs, as does inside footy, but his profile has him at 68 kgs.

The inside footy bio describes him as a "good size"...?

By using my eyes, I can tell you right now that he doesn't weigh 78 kgs.

Marc Murphy was 179cm, 78kgs when he was drafted last year - There is no way that Brad D ick is 184cm, 78kgs.

Hey Parrot, easy way to figgure it out...

Who would you rarther at Carlton??

Ray or Thomas??

This will be a good indication of what you actually know

Honestly - Don't talk to him.

Just ignoring him seems to be the best way to make him go away.

He's not going to to listen to your arguments, and he will make things up to make himself feel better about his rabble of a football team. There is no way to make him see the light.

Which teams did this?

WCE & Collingwood were the only ones who went heavy on the talls. I doubt WCE or Collingwood can in their current recruiting be accused of being conformist! I can see now that they have remarkably similar recruiting criteria.

One of our talls is something of a midfielder anyway and we did pick up Stiffy Mach II who is an electric midfielder.

And both clubs have the most resourced and vast recruiting networks in the country (along with Adelaide). Maybe they know something other clubs dont.

Another question, did Goldsack only play this year for the Gippsland Power, or did he play last year with Pendles and Sparky?

We'd better watch ourselves, Port Adelaide went from being the Magpies to the Power, and we're following suit!

I see a fair bit of Gippy. He's a good mark and a beaut kick, quite tall obviously and a a good tackler. Wouldnt say he is quick but often thats deceptive. Doesnt have that great first step that a lot of mids have to get out of trouble/packs. He is a natural ball player though and I think will become more a wing type. Just MO.

I and the football world was sold on Daisy. Until Parrot said he was just average. parrot's opinions are very well respected on here (insert sarcasm) so maybe he is right and everyone else is wrong.

Maybe I was watching a different games or maybe I was watching a sifferent Thomas.

I was pretty much sold on Sparky from the preseason game when he marked and handballed to a running player, while diving, in one movement.

Yeah I'm pretty sure I was convinced at the intra-club to with that.
It was also a gather of what was a low wickedly bouncing ball , that made it all the more remarkable.

How long will they be able to run at that pace once they bulk up to their 196cm and 192cm frames?
There both 195 cm, So In don't know where you got 192cm.

Bump

The point was, Thomas was not even ranked top-10, yet the Pies used #2 pick on him. He also is not a midfielder, and has some leg speed issues - remember what happened when Farren Ray ran off him last year? Pendlebury is a mile ahead of Thomas talent-wise. He also has courage, excellent leg speed, endurance, and is a true midfielder unlike Thomas who is and always will be an opportunist HF flanker / FP type. A good player, but not top-10 material. :)
Ok, is this really parrot?

Describing Pendlebury as courageous?

Someone show it to him/her.

What is forgotten, that in addition to the 5 ND selections, Marty Clarke was a rookie selection that year. Clarke, Goldsack & Brown have received RS Nominations & and along with Dawes, they have all played in winning finals.

It has been the best drafting performance of any club since 04 with Hawthorn (Collingwood's 05' is pretty handy too).
