If that comment was true, why didn’t any other club go for him? Saints went for Higgins and Carlton renewed Eddie’s contract. Something not quite right with Jaiydn. Smells funny.
There may very well be something wrong; however, we were the only club that had the salary cap space at such short notice.

You can not trade a player with a big contract on such short notice.

Understand, we’ve got JDG. But in Stephenson’s case, absolutely no-one was interested. You’d think Saints would rather him than Higgins and Blues would rather him than Betts.

Betts is on the list for other reasons. If he wasn't on a playing contract as a mentor he'd be in the football department as a mentor. At the moment, football department spending is probably tighter than Player Payment spending. And if we get a few decent games out of him, all the better.

No idea. Not relevant to Steve though.
Hope he fulfils his potential and I seriously rate the kid - still could be anything. But when a 21 year old Rising Star winner is available for effectively nothing, you’d assume there’d be a range of clubs lining up for him. It’s not like Collingwood’s salary cap issues only became known in trade week, or that Stephenson was deemed as off limits from the get go. Will be interesting to see what he makes of his career at North.

Every player is on an AFL list for their own reasons/attributes. When a 21 year old Rising Star winner becomes available for peanuts, you’d think he’s a better option for you up forward than a 34 year old on the way out.

And yet Collingwood wanted him out the door as quickly as he could be pushed through it.

Reportedly on 500 plus a year, couldn't get a regular game, one trick pony small forward who doesn't tackle. With demonstrated bad citizen qualities and a strong suspicion of more where that came from.

Pass.

Impulse buying is poor list management. Nearly as poor as deficient Cap management.

Don't be like that.

With some development, I reckon Stephenson has what it takes to become North's Dayne Beams.

If Stephenson becomes half the player that Beams was then North would be stoked.

Pies are nowhere near admitting the key issues:

1. They were at risk of going way over the salary cap.

2. Their list isn’t good enough to be way over the salary cap.

3. They were too late to identify the issue (should have done more last year).

4. They got net gain of a future second for 3 good/great players.

5. They lied constantly in public statements throughout the trade period.
You've cut through the BS very nicely there.

Ignoring what has happened. I hope we get Nic Cox. I honestly love the potential he has. Would ideally use him as a Kew Forward but I personally rate him in my top 10 so hoping we can land him. Maybe even a 2nd pick before we have to bid on Reef McInnes.

we would not have traded Treloar for Matt Rowell
Collingwood enquired, we told them no thanks.
I guarantee the AFL wouldn't have let us either.
Half the point of pick 2 compensation was he and Noah Anderson as great mates basically came as a package.

Collingwood asked the question, what would it take to give up pick one.
Gold Coast came back with the name Adam Traloar Collingwood declined that trade, god know why.
Traloar not willing to move interstate is the only reason I can see as to why the trade didn’t get done.
The AFL would have loved the idea of an A grade mature midfielder, that’s in his prime heading to Gold Coast.
A massive sliding doors moment when you think about it.
Gold Coast dodged a bullet big time,
Traloar would have been a great get for GCS no doubt, but he’s 28yo and on $900k a year, but Rowell will be a super star for the next 10 years and has future captain and Brownlow medal potential.

I don’t think this is true at all. Do you have any evidence at all to back up your claim?

Craig Cameron has had numerous discussions about the 2019 draft, talking in depth about brad crouch and possibilities there. Has not once mentioned TRELOAR in 2019 trade season context.
We were always taking Rowell.
You are just making s**t up.

They entertained the idea, but don't think they would have went through with it.

Gold Coast reportedly made a bold play for Collingwood star Adam Treloar during secret trade talks held in the back-half of the 2019 season.

The Herald Sun published a bombshell report on Monday night that suggested the Magpies considered a trade with the Suns involving Treloar and Pick 1 “for a little bit” before it was vigorously quashed by the Pies star midfielder.
It was reported the Pies asked the Suns about the possibility of acquiring Pick 1, which led to Gold Coast asking about Treloar — even though the Suns never intended to give up its prized first draft selection.

Isn’t the issue that Treloar made it very clear last year and this year and that he has no intention of playing footy in Queensland.

Strange you say that as its correct

Carlton have a better and more balanced list as well as not having issue's with cap space

Easy to manage the salary cap when you haven't been within coo-ee of finals for a decade I'd think.
Rightly or wrongly, Collingwood threw cash at players to keep them together for a flag tilt, which nearly paid off in 2018 and injuries/other circumstances ****ed our 2019/2020 efforts.
Our window is now probably closed, but to keep it open for 2-3 years was a decent effort considering.

We now do a huge clean out, rebuild for a couple of years and get back into it. A flag and 7 finals appearances in the past 10-odd years is a pretty decent effort.

Well by your reasoning then Geelong Richmond should be the teams tht are in trouble , Doesnt matter if you have been crap over the last decade as you still need to pay 95% of the cap.

Pies have been spending like millionaires buying players that simply are not at the level they are being paid

Agreed. Geelong and Richmond have managed better than us, 100%. Your example though was Carlton.
In saying that, there are surely some Richmond players who can/will/do earn much more than they should be, which is fine when they have flags behind them now. If Pies had won in 2018/2019 no one would blink if we had to offload some to manage cap etc.
We gambled and lost essentially.
