As far as I see it,our backline is fine and will only get stronger with the return of Brown.
Our Midfield is one of the best running around.
Its our forward line that is the worry. We are too one dimensional when going in there.
We nearly always look for Cloke, with good reason though, but if we just lowered our eyes and looked for more options it would make us less predictable.
Which is why I want this:

My only wish is that we keep McCaffer and Brad Dick.
Those two in the forward line would help us out immensely.

Caff because of his size(medium forward),presense, pressure and tackling in the forward fifty .
I cant see us letting him go easily or cheaply, because why would we take him to Arizona mid year if he wasnt in our plans for the future.

Dick for his pace, tackling, enthusiasm amd X factor.
He can also be run through the guts at times to ease the pressure off our current midfielders.

I just hope they can get over their current injury woes and get a good pre season into them and be cherry ripe come round one of the 2012 season.

Also would mind having a go at McIntosh from the Roos but wouldnt throw a lot of money at him.

Any thoughts???

I agree in part, but the forward line wasn't helped by the delivery they received. Far too often we bombed it in there giving the forwards no chance and it was a recurring theme right throughout the finals series and also in the drawn GF last year. To sum it up throughout the year we averaged 119 ppg yet in our last 4 matches that dipped to 68 ppg...

Quicky earlier in the year created a thread asking where we as supporters thought we could improve. My initial thoughts were converting more of our inside 50's and on Saturday we converted just 25% whereas the Cats went at 31%.

To fix it is more a game plan and structure issue, but IMO it means we need our most skillful delivering it into the forward 50. A suggestion I'd make to fix this is to put the likes of Didak, Sidebottom and Krackouer behind the ball a bit more (not as a loose man), but more how Hawthorn set-up by placing him at the back of stoppages where they can use their skill. That might mean we have to release other players, but it would also make Macaffer more valuable as a lead up target. Which would make a good go to instead of bombing the ball long constantly!

To get back to a list management perspective I guess if Caff's a chance to leave we should probably look at targeting someone like Brad Ebert who's physically mature enough to come in and play a similar role. Though I would rather we stick with Caff.

If this is true then wtf?

That would have been because of ******* smart arses putting crap in like "Collingwood are the worstest ever and deserved to be flogged in the GF blah blah blah". I'd suggest that because Wikipedia is open to anyone editing it that general modifying would happen regularly.

Whereas that table representing the senior and rookie lists more than likely hasn't been updated since the May 25 date.

Dick will never be able to tackle.. i dont think theres a place for him in the forward line. Still far far too weak and seriously dodgy shoulder (and knee)

Heard Gordon was gone at the dinner on Sat.

Keep hearing this but he has continued to be around the playing group through the finals series. Saw him pre Eagles final (with Farmer and Perham) and was even in the rooms in Pies suit and tie post match on Saturday.

Would be disappointed if true prob the only young KP rookie from last year that IMO seemed to show that he may have what it takes. Improved a lot defensively by the end of the year. Also think that has the ability to be a bit of a KP swingman who could go back or fwd in the Hurley mould (not saying he is Hurley or anywhere near his talent but could see him being flexibile like that).

Are you saying you heard this at dinner on Sat night or that he (Gordon) found out at the dinner on Sat night? Source Frankie? Won't believe it until I see an official list.

Of the senior list obviously Brown is gone and I would expect Buckley to go as well as Young and Rounds have shown they can step up there. Only reason to keep him is bc Bucks wants a spare big body there but even then there are a couple of blokes who could do that. Of the others I would think that Farmer is safe but Stubbs would probably go as well. Also not sure we need Wood, Ceglar and Witts.

If Beams was in strife then I would love to trade him for Josh Caddy - its probably a fair trade I would think and I would take it in a heart beat.

IN regards to rookies would be staggered if Bolton has been dumped. PLayed some good footy late.

If Beams was 100% set on leaving I personally wouldn't say no to that deal if it were offered. However if we take the club at face value in regards to Beams he may very well have played on the weekend and is definitely still best 22 (you don't just write off 21 year olds).

Which begs the question, would Caddy have the same impact in 2012 that Beams would? With all things being equal the answers no. The earliest that Caddy would overtake Beams (if he were to) is probably 2014 and considering we're still in premiership mode atm that doesn't exactly help us.

Edit: Even though it is based on the assumption of Dayne wanting out.

I think we need another KPP forward. After Cloke and Dawes, there is really no one who can fill that void if one gets injured.

Keefe played the role thsi year, but he has been developed more as a back or ruck option.

I find it a useful exercise to draw up our 2nd team...full of players who are not currently in our 22 and see which positions are left blank.

Our backline is strong and the midfield has options. But the tall forwards are non-existant.

B: Buckley, N.Brown, Goldsack
HB: Young, Keefe, ???
C: Sinclair, Beams, McCarthy
HF: Macaffer, ??? , Rounds
F: Dick, ??? , ???

R: Wood, Josh Thomas, Bolton

Obviously a lot of kids have not been put in the side simply because they are too early to judge. Big holes up forward is what stands out, and probably a few more mids would be handy.

I think we also really miss Macaffer. Currently we have no mid-sized lead up forward. Macaffer did this role beautifully in the 2010 GF.

I think Didak, Macaffer and Beams will be like new recruits in 2012 after big pre-seasons

I'm not in a huge rush to dump Buckley. Jonno is getting older and Bucks played a number of very good games. He brings some good depth to the list.

I'd also keep all 3 of those rucks on the list simply because 2 are still projects and Wood hasn't proven himself yet. I haven't seen enough in Keefe to suggest he'd be a good backup ruck option.

No doubt a few of the newer kids may be on the outer like Stubbs. I thnk we'd be aiming for the bare minimum delistings this year after we cleaned out a lot last year. There is not much in the draft this year. Better to stick with what we have.

With all due respect Dave, Beams is well and truely in our best 22.
Ahead of Krakouer, Sidebottom, Blair and on par with Wellingham, Toovey, Johnson, O'Brien, Dawes in terms of output.

Unless of course you meant the players that didn't play in our GF.

I think once again, like last season, Beams is being rememebered for his last 2 games (well, one non game due to being injured) and not being remembered for the solid final he put up against West Coast and they very good h&a sseason he had bar injuries.

Bare minimum thiS year is 2. If they pre list Clarke and get a kid we would be done.

Agree on beams but am huge wrap for caddy and he will be better than beams in 2 years time. Problem with beams is what he doesn't do when they have footy which will be aroblem for bucks.

You can't teach skill or talent. You can always teach defensive responsibility. One pretty good reason to keep Beams.

I like Beams, I think he has a great potential but right now he isn't above or equal to any players you've mentioned apart from Blair. Needs to do a lot more than 20 touches in one finals game for me to change my opinion, made up injuries or not.

Beams averaged 25 possessions or something like that since coming back from injury. If that's not above any of those players mentioned then I don't know what is.

I know he's been in great form leading up to the finals but time and time again he's shown he struggles on a big stage.
Next time read my posts a bit slower....

I thought if we got Clarke + player through a trade that didn't count as we didn't acquire them through the national draft? So we'll need 5 spots available on our senior list?

As for drafting kids and delisting players, you only delist a player if you think you can draft someone better. With the draft being weak and compromised I think S.Buckley would stay.
