The Magpies are understood to have put forward a strong submission to the AFL, and will hold talks with league officials this week regarding the logistics of a Collingwood women's team.
I really like this Idea and Something Great to see Women play AFL. They are some real Good Women Footballers as we seen with the Dogs vs Dees Games. Just lack the Power that Men Have.

Article was also saying that in 2017 they have a League with AFL Teams in it
I know that but they I'm pretty sure that there wont be 18 teams and all situated in Victoria. With that the smaller number of prospective teams in Vic would be even even smaller due to the doggies and Melbourne having their own sides.

According to Caro's article there are only going to be 4 Victorian teams. With Melbourne and the Bulldogs just about locked in, we're in for heavy competition.

All for women's footy, can't help but think the AFL would be better having stand alone sides though. There just isn't the talent for 18 women's teams or 10 in Victoria and I reckon supporters of clubs who miss out will be alienated. If they go the aligned route and there's no Collingwood, there's no way I'd back a women's team of a rival AFL club.

No one is going to care about stand-alone sides.

If they align them with AFL clubs that automatically generates some interest and support

Is Women's Cricket Soccer or Basketball huge?
Basketball and Netball is at a junior level and women's cricket, netball is pretty big.
Knew cricket and netball but didn't realise that basketball was that big until my grand-daughter started playing last year.
Courts are full every Saturday in the Northern suburbs.

I'm talking about at the professional levels not junior participation

Not much professional level as not the money nor sponsorship.
Women's Cricket won the Ashes this year, Netball team are world champions, Women's Soccer team reached finals (qtr?) this year.
Don't disregard junior participation as if given the opportunity will eventually become professional seniors. If it is not played at that level, the sport will die out as was the case with Softball.

Bump.
Trials are currently being held for women from other sports to try their hand at AFL for the national Comp in 2017. No mention of Collingwood bidding for a licence though. Anybody know why?

Is there actually any money to be made in Women's footy? This may be a reason why the club isn't pushing harder for a license, it seems like a lot of resources will be needed to be put into the team without much reward.

Do we play footy just to make money?
Would you want Collingwood flag chances to decrease so we can pay for a plastic female franchise to wear our colours?

It's not like the girls won't be able to play if Collingwood don't buy a license.

Of course if a female team can financially supporter themselves (mostly) then it would be silly not to have a dip and see how it goes.

Play it in summer to give the footy nuts some AFL to watch in the off season and it could be a success. I would watch a few Womens matches I'm dying for footy in December/Jan
