soft spot for Carlton out of pity
I thought this was a good thread on this board as I believe this journalists reporting of the Essendon drug scandal and then framing Collingwood, puts him in a position where he has zero credibility in reporting this very issue, drugs in sport.

An interview was conducted with Taylor Adams on SEN today, and this disgrace had to leave the room before it started.

Love it. Journos consistently crack it anytime someone says a word against them, but rarely take accountability when they dish it out. Good on the Pies players for not tolerating this crap.

Interesting to see how this pans out. I reckon it'll go one of two ways:
1. Robbo will run a series of puff pieces to try and get back in the good books.
2. He's gonna go for revenge and readership. A series of bad articles about Collingwood will get a lot of readers and attention.

On pint 2, any article would have an * next to it though.

It's childish to target reporters for reporting the the truth.

The AFL, the clubs & the players need to realise the media aren't propaganda agents. That's not their job.

I know that's probably hard for clubs Collingwood and Essendon to understand with so many sycophants in the press but it should be the standard and not the exception.

Except it wasn't the truth.

And wasn't he a whiny little bitch for the remainder of the Crunchtime program. Doubled down by saying that "I'm thinking now the number was higher", fellated Xavier Campbell on and off air re the ASADA 'injustice' and then totally hijacked the Dermot Brereton memories segment, to Derm's obvious discomfort, by making it about Derm's 'conflicts' with the media. Slobbo then used this pretext to settle scores with Damian Barrett, and implicitly glossing over his own cluster*, by insinuating 'see Derm got angry with the media, this Collingwood thing with me is nothing'.

What a s**t bloke.

Really hoping this media ban spreads league wide, primarily for the inevitable glass-jawed reaction.

Jeff you have a very naïve view of reporters. Very few are after the truth, all of them are after a story or something to sell newspapers or provide clickbait, but that doesn't necessarily mean the truth. Some of them wouldn't know the truth if it ran over them in a truck. Slobbo is one of them. And as other posters have said there is a good chance he just made it up. Making things up shouldn't be the province of news services but Spew Corp & Pox News have specialised in this for years, and yes, it is essentially propaganda.

This guy doesn't qualify as a journalist so he shouldn't be allowed to interview players. How he has his job is a joke, and his knowledge of any team outside of Melbourne is farcical for someone who is getting paid to be an expert in his field. He's so far up his own arse he regularly contradicts himself at least twice in any of his rambling, 5 minute sentences and genuinely believes he's bigger than the game and holds some position of authority, when he's regarded by everyone in the industry as a complete fool.

He tried option 1 . Remember the groveling articles over the Easter weekend explaining it wasn't about the Pies. It made him look like a hypocrite and people were in the mean time were busy sharpening their pencils. After a week of spanking by the coaches, the players & his colleagues , he is hurting bad and decides to lash out.

The attention he will get is more about him turning into a trainwreck than about anything about Collingwood. Guy has no credibility left....

Your quite right by easter he was backtracking and was under pressure to explain how he came up with 11 and why he didn't name other clubs, and had nothing more been said it would've died shortly thereafter.

But then Collingwood people went on the attack and breathed new life into it, sure it angries the blood and rallies the supporters, but it's counterproductive, now the story has nothing to do with the original article nor does it have to do with a acurracy either, its headlines being generated by the response. This player ban just prolongs a story that would've died a week ago.

media bans are pointless too. Papers will always run with scandal, that's what sells and this ban doesn't change that, the whole point of media engagement is to give yourself the opportunity to put out some good stories as well. This ban prolongs the story and limits their ability to put out a counter narrative as well.

not sure if collingwoods media manger had dropped the ball or is being ignored, but going to war with the major paper is stupid. Couldn't imagine sponsors would be too thrilled either.

It isn't just the negativity of the reporting I assume. Pies would be very pissed at whoever gave Robbo the info and Robbo for reporting it. Rightly so. No one should have the info.

I don't know who's running PR at Collingwood (Eddie I guess, he does everything else) but this is so *in dumb.

Banning a journo? Lol. Think what you like of Robbo but he has one of the biggest platforms (if not the biggest) in the footy media. He's chief writer for the nations biggest paper and co-host of the only nightly footy show on TV. That's just fact.

You think he's just gonna stop talking to Collingwood because they "ban him"? Now he can and will just say whatever he wants... what, he didn't check with them first? Well he can't if they don't talk to him! It's the perfect excuse.

A lot of people have been victims of far bigger media targeting, do they all ban a journalist? It's laughingly precious.

I've got not much time for a lot of "journos" with the amount of s**t that was flat made up about EFC over the past few years, but banning them from talking to the club? Grow the * up.

The whole thing reeks of Eddie and his bully-boy, control freak ways.

NEWSFLASH...

No one had the info... no one had any info... Robbo made it up, which is why he has been barred by the players.

Robbo lied... he had no source with his "Exclusive Story" (which he has acknowledged multiple times)... He is still trying to guess the number of positive tests (as you can see on the SEN website he thinks it's more than 23 now!)

There's less numbers in a Keno draw that Robbo's Exclusive... and he's being laughed at by everyone in the Industry right now.

The Truth... All he knows is... If they ever resurrect that Newspaper (The Truth) and need a head writer... He's first on their list!

Collingwood sell papers... that's why he made up the story and threw a dart at a dartboard with the number.

Yet now Robbo, the Chief Football writer of Melbournes biggest paper is barred from talking to any player who plays for the papers biggest selling team!

Me thinks his job at that paper is in trouble... at it's all his fault!

Sucked in... LIER.

I agree with that except the last bit. Will have zero impact on his job or paper, potential to hurt Collingwood more. Robbo doesn't solely decide what runs, the article was newscorp business plan, court controversy. This ban plays right into that keeps the srory running for another week.
