It wasn't bad luck fat one. In most cases, we weren't good enough.

And if you thought things were always bound to change, you weren't around in the late 80s, when we were 30 years beyond the last premiership. It wasn't so relaxed 10 minutes into the last quarter in 1990 when doug barwick kicked a goal that put us about 7 goals in front and many Pie supporters including myself finally started thinking that the drought had ended. It's not a casual ying and yang thing about these premierships. This one might be the last one that I'll see in my lifetime and the last one for you too. It's the only thing that really matters in sport. Other losses are forgotten in time. Outcomes in grand finals are never forgotten.

Very nice work! I see you have Leon Davis named on the list, and (unless something has changed recently and I didn't hear about it!) I don't believe he is classed as a premiership player. The fact that he received a medal after we'd won the flag in 2010 would have caused many people to think he was officially classed as a PP (I see his Wiki page even says he is one). I was puzzled when the 2011 AFL Season Guide came out to see that his name wasn't on the all-time premiership player list. I checked with the book's editor, who had it confirmed from the AFL folks that he wasn't considered to be a premiership player. His name still isn't on the latest version of the list in the 2023 AFL Season Guide, BTW.

I’d forgotten Teddy Lockwood (1902, 1903) so he’s been added to the list.

On the Ch7 post-match GF coverage, they said we had 199 premiership players in our club’s history.

Having grown up with the NFL here, the process for giving Super Bowl rings (i.e. the closest comparison to the Premiership Medals) is very different. In fact, there really isn't a rule apart from the fact that a Super Bowl winning team will be eligible to order 150 rings and no parameters are set on who those 150 individuals are.

Now I completely understand the Premiership Medals are part of a ceremony dating back to the origins of the league itself. But this internal strife brought about through not making the cut to being selected is rather brutal. "It is what it is. You just have to suck it up and deal with it and come back next time." Insert your favorite cliche here. Is that really the point?

Is it time to consider the Medal Presentation obsolete due to the fact the game has grown, the teams have grown and there are many others, in a club, who are instrumental in that Premiership who do not get presented a medal. In turn, what message gets delivered to them while their teammates get to stand on stage?

Whether it be a medal, a ring or whatever, just give them 150 (or some reasonable quantity) and let the team issue them to their players and staff as they see fit - problem solved.

well if we're going to use american sport as a template, I believe that the NFL trophy is presented to the OWNER. Have a look at this presentation and see if it sickens you not to see a player on the dias until well after the trophy has been presented. The owner's family is behind him...I think....what a joke.

We get a lot of people in here telling us how american sports do things better. I dont think this is one of those times.
