How has Eddie McGuire manages to stuff this up so badly? All he needs to do is apologise, say that they are sorry and take responsibility.

Instead it is "this is a proud day for the football club". I spoke to players and "they are delighted". "We're not a racist club. We're a club that tries to do well". Just stop patting yourself on the back.

Hard to make this up.

what an utter sh*t show. as a lot of us were saying on here, the pies had a lot to answer to. the report today is just confirmation of what we all knew.

eddies response is incredibly poor and is just a symptom of a wider issue. he's just incredibly out of date and past his used by date. which has knock on affects to all areas of the organisation.

feel bad for pies fans who no doubt will be seen by some as racist, not because of their actions but because they have a bellend of a president.

the management of their response to many of their players claims has been incredibly poor. fails many aspects of proper governance and tbh should have been enough to see eddie and the board removed.

" All of this comes back to the leadership of the Collingwood Football Club — particularly its Board – and the need for it to set the vision and values of the Club and to drive structural change within the organisation. Change needs to be driven from the top if it is to address racism and set the tone for the culture within the Club. "

absolutely damning:
" The current Club policies dealing with conduct within the Club and complaints are relatively new, coming into effect in 2020. There has been little opportunity to socialise them with the Club. These new policies are significant in that they directly mention racism. The previous policies did not. The Club needs to ensure it is meeting its obligations as an employer to ensure it is addressing issues of discrimination and racism within the Club. "

" . And the people who have experienced racism and raised those incidents have paid a high personal price for speaking out. This deeper reflection on the past to learn and improve going forward must be accompanied by actions that seek to make amends and atone for past failures "

couple this statement with that McGuire press conference. NOTHING HAS CHANGED!

" However, there is a gap — a very big one — between what Collingwood Football Club says it stands for and what it does. "

" Do the members of the Board embrace the Club’s values? Do they show a commitment to those values in how they behave? Are they willing to be held accountable to those standards? "

ROFL i think we know the answer and the report was literally only live for a matter of hours and the club has only spoken publicly on it, ONCE!

They've said the details of the investigation were made public - any idea where that is available?
Did you not listen? This is not a investigation, this is a report!

And Collingwood thanks you, because if this were an investigation, heads would roll based on that report.

Eddie needs to, not lead conferences, it ends badly for him.

Thoughts?
McGuire didn't really address/acknowledge anything and in the times he tried to, it was pretty weak. I don't remember his name but the guy on the far right made a comment that in the past Collingwood have addressed these issues as singular events instead of a more broader, "group" issue and that the system in which they address these issues needs to dramatically improve. He seemed pretty genuine and at least gave us some kind of example of how their system (or lack thereof) broke down. I think Eddie just tip toed around many of the questions, he did more defending of the football club than acknowledging there is/was a problem at Collingwood and taking responsibility for it.

Not much to say on the other two, bit wishy washy, nothing really stood out for me.

Also have to note no sponsor or club logos were present at the presser - might've been done deliberately by the club to try and disassociate themselves with it. Not sure what to make of that.

Interested to see what comes of the court case Lumumba is involved in for two reasons - One - I knew a player that recently moved on from Collingwood and have family friends that are pretty close to the club - both are not white Australians and when we spoke about these issues they said they've never experienced racism at the club directly or indirectly. That's not to say it hasn't happened to anyone else, just their experiences. And two - their comments regarding Lumumba's personality were that of a big headed attention seeker that misunderstood his place/pulling power as an AFL footballer (allegedly asked McGuire to organise a meeting with he and Barack Obama later into his career at Collingwood) amongst some other bizarre behaviour. That's not to say he didn't experience racism at Collingwood, his experiences are totally his own. And of course the family and player I am family friends with may just be wrong. I'm just curious to see what the end result is from that investigation.

Does anyone know what the status of that is actually? Hearings etc?

Translation - the Board, in failing to act when its President displayed racist attitudes, endorsed and entrenched structural racism within the club.

Collingwood deserved a kicked on the way it has treated indigenous and non-white players. I greatly value the Winmar jumper lift and believe the Saints have been pretty good in recent years. However we treated Robbie Muir badly. I believe our current attitude is excellent and I love the frequent publication of photos with Free the Flag etc. Players like Brad Hill and Gresh have become the public face of the Club.
There won't be a report from St Kilda. I would be interested to know what others think.

sh*t rolls from the top.
For that club to start making changes they need to clean house immediately.
But they wont because there president is megalomaniac and his toy boy is a classic narcissist.

But what gets me is that *******s audacity to say its a proud day for the Collingwood football club.
In that one sentence he and by proxy of his statement the whole Collingwood Football Club showed they are not sorry.
A sad day.

What a disgrace! I’m amazed someone as intelligent as Eddie actually read that garbage! No wonder he was sweating so much. I hope Collingwood get pulled to pieces over this, it’s been a long time coming.
