1. COLLINGWOOD

Ticks: 9

Crosses: 10

Average draft pick: 34.1

Average senior games played by selections: 82.5

Best picks: Scott Pendlebury (Pick 5, 2005), Dayne Beams (Pick 29, 2008)

COLLINGWOOD claims top spot on this list with a half-decade of drafting that set up the club’s 2010 premiership with one of the youngest flag-winning lists we’ve seen in a while. After making two straight flag-deciders in the early 2000s, the Magpies slipped down the table, but then set themselves up with brilliant decision-making at the top of drafts in the late 2000s.

Dale Thomas (Pick 2, 2005) was one of the best players in the AFL for a period, while Scott Pendlebury, Dayne Beams and Steele Sidebottom (Pick 11, 2008) are all midfield guns. The 2006 draft brought in Ben Reid (Pick 8), Nathan Brown (Pick 10) and Chris Dawes (Pick 28) while there were also some late gems in the forms of Tyson Goldsack (Pick 63, 2006) and Ben Sinclair (Pick 62, 2009).

We done well and it set up our flag. Looking at the now though the problem we face is that we tried to top up over the following few years and also that most of those highlighted in the article never really kicked on or didn't sustain it.

Beams - BL
Thomas - injury issues
Reid - injury issues
Brown - injury issues
Dawes - didn't come on
Goldsack - solid role player
Sinclair - injury issues

Except Sinclair they are all Premiership Players. Yes they did not Kick on after that. I guess that is what Knightmare reasoning for saying that Older Players go Backwards at Collingwood where at Clubs like Hawthorn that does not Happen

Lol what? Unless the measure of success is having three quarters of a list of vanilla half back types, then he certainly has not done well recently.

Okay Mr.Negative

Hine is good at identifying talent, however he doesn't have the grand picture in mind and always seem to take best available with little to no consideration to the list's talent composition.

Which draft has he picked the eyes out of since? Wasn't it you a couple of months ago that was sooking it up that we took Jordy De Goey at five?

I'm with you!

What good is it being the best in a five year period that ended 7 drafts ago? We have 8 players remaining from that period with maybe 4 best 22 relevant, IMO (not counting Blair given we don't know his future with certainty).

We're a club always looking in the rear view mirror so lets focus on being the best from 2014-2018 :thumbsu:

Grundy appears to be the only pick in the last 7 or so drafts that has been a real "find". Not much to write home about.
