FROM THE AGE
Meantime St Kilda have spoken with Collingwood about Nathan Freeman. The Pies want two second-round picks – this year's and next year's - for Freeman and the Magpies' third-round pick. So the effect would be St Kilda gets Freeman and they slide in the draft this year and give up next year's second round. The Saints are not excited by that offer.
The Magpies though are waiting on GWS deciding on their offer on Treloar. The Magpies have offered their first-round picks this year and next for Treloar and want a second-round pick back.
So Collingwood is waiting to know what they have to give up for Treloar, what they get for Freeman and for Paul Seedsman, who is likely to go the Suns but could also yet end up at North … or Adelaide … or Sydney (yes there's a few in the mix and he hasn't said where he wants to go yet). If they get second-round picks for Freeman and Seedsman, as well as one for the Treloar exchange, then in addition to their own second round they will have four second-round picks this year.
Two of those they would probably offer to Brisbane for James Aish but the Lions have said they don't want to trade him at any price and will let him go in the pre-season to Carlton if he insists on leaving.
That then creates tension in other possible deals. Brisbane want to trade in David Astbury from Richmond and Tom Bell from Carlton. One possibility is Bell could be done for a future pick, probably a second round.
AND THERE IS MORE
Meanwhile back to Collingwood. The Magpies will probably decide on Thursday if they want to pursue Jeremy Howe. Once they make a decision, Howe will decide whether he wants to go to North, Gold Coast or Collingwood.
If it is North it would probably be for a second-round pick; if it is Gold Coast there might be a shuffle of early picks. If it is Collingwood it could be Ben Kennedy and a third-round pick.
