I don't think they would stand in their way for Danger, it's more looking after their own house for what could be a big trade period for them if they want to get some high quality talent, as well as recruit some SA young guns such as Aish or Scharenberg or both they need more currency.

For example if we look at the ladder position now, if they don't match they will get pick 13 for Danger and that's it.
If they match Geelong they will get Geelong's first pick which currently would be pick 9 (already better off) and most likely something else which could be a Motlop, or a second rounder and a decent steak knives like we got in Crisp.

So long story short, don't match they get pick 13.
If they do match they could get pick 9 + motlop. Or pick 9 plus second rounder, plus George-Horlin Smith (random name). They could go on to use that first pick for an Aish or Shaz, still have another first rounder, and an extra second rounder for the other one.
Would you take pick 9 for Shaz, I wouldn't.

Surely the AFL would give more than pick 13. I know he's no Ablett but is bloody good and shouldn't be far off 2 first rounders. He's par or better than Beams IMO so the AFL should compensate accordingly.

NT there are rules that relate to compensation to clubs that lose a free agent.

Why do players like Swan, Beams and Fyfe get put down for their disposal efficiency when Dangers is just as bad if not worse
I guess it's the contested nature of his game.

But in essence I agree. I've been watching him closely lately and even when given space and time geez he sprays them. Makes Swanny look like a dead eye.

Although I would agree with you, they're worked out on the size of the contract the player signs. Geelong has categorically stated he will not be on much more than 800k a year, given that he would currently be on 600ish and Adelaide's offer would be close to 800 it won't net a first rounder and second, let alone two first's like Ablett. That and the obvious elephant in the room is that Buddy signed the biggest contract in competition history, still only netted the hawks 1 first rounder and no second rounders.

The Hawks got pick 19 for Buddy. There are rules and strict guidelines to follow regarding FA compo, and the AFL won't change them just because a player might be worth more than the compo given.

You're right but these guys would have pretty handy meters gained I imagine. They all are contested ball winning machines and as such are often under more pressure than the outside runners who are using the ball at significantly better disposal rates.

I class Danger the same, I'm not sure I've seen too many that would argue with you.

Yeah exactly, which is why they will have to trade. It will have to be a three way trade, geelong dont have enough to get it over the line
IMO, this could be part of the reason Motlop hasn't been re-signed by Geelong yet. Motlop and Geelongs 1st rounder for Dangerfield. From all reports Adelaide have every intention to match any Geelong FA offer. Why wouldn't they ? Yep, Dangerfield does want to leave but he hardly hates it at Adelaide. Also, everyone with any idea about AFL knows how good Dangerfield is and if it wasn't for free agency a deal similar to this would be what it takes to get a trade done. Will be the time has club matched a FA offer.

A seven year deal as opposed to a five year deal is likely not much incentive to an elite 21 year old player who should be entering his prime after 5 years.

At age 26 with a larger cap he could easily negotiate a better deal than what he was worth on signing.
