I haven't been a massive Kreuzer fan over the journey but he looks to be entering the purple patch of his career. He is a big unit and has been rucking very well.
The real benefit of grabbing him is that he is a Free Agent. If he wasn't a Free Agent I wouldn't be that hot on him, but getting him allows us to:
a/. grab a ruck who is ready to dominate now without giving away a draft pick
b/. to then trade out one of our rucks for a first round pick which we then might be able to use on Weideman or to add to 1st pick to get Treloar
c/. this would sort out our ruck age-profile and succession issues: a senior 26 year old ruck, a developing 21/22 year-old ruck to take over, a project ruck
d/. we can actually start to win or break-even at centre bounces
I think we squander our midfield talent at the moment by not being able to compete at centre bounces owing to our young rucks. I don't want to wait two more seasons to have us become competitive there.
Kreuzer I think can work as a resting forward depending on the opposition. He can be tethered to the goal-square and is capable of taking a mark or getting infringed in the process by holding his position. We can more slowly develop our remaining young ruck.
The other thing is with Cox coming on well, we don't want to end up like Carlton of a few years ago where they had Jacobs, Hampson, Warnock and Kreuzer - all capable of rucking and running down their currency in a game of musical chairs.
