I actually really agree that we are missing x-factor. This year we have been a hard working blue collar team that can grind out wins when everyone is on however when things aren't going our way and the effort drops off we are really poor.

We were so close to winning against Freo but when Michael Walters kicked those freak goals it really hurt us. Imagine last week with all of our inside 50's having a Wingard or Rioli just lurking in the forward 50. They just have the ability to do something amazing which can then lift the entire playing group.

Is their any chance Danger could head to the pies.

Heard on sen that the pies are right in the race to get him?

Bennell would be an amazing get. Goal-kicking midfielders are gold in football.

Might sound odd but I'd want him over Treloar. I just don't see Treloar having the X-factor, speed or impact that Bennell would provide.

Also, would cost us much less. Possibly Oxley + 2nd Rounder if GC are that keen to get rid of him. I wouldn't mind giving the 2016 1st Rounder for him either if Aish doesn't nominate us.

PS: Long time lurker, first-time poster.

Plenty of merit in that argument. Harley has as much ability as anyone in the AFL and if the indiscretions are behind him he's the perfect fit for our club. I think a few clubs would be keen though and he'd probably end up costing us more. Put it this way, if he DID cost us Oxley and a 2nd rounder, it would be the steal of the year.

Only issues with Bennell over Treloar are the possible off field stuff and the fact it is risk vs reward.

Treloar is very little risk. He is as close to a safe bet as you can get for young players (barring injury). However, we are not sure of his ceiling long term. IMO you have a solid 200 gamer at worst.

Bennell could be anything but is a massive risk. He could be a star or just really struggle to ever really settle into being a professional AFL player, especially at a club like Collingwood.

In my view, these are the scenarios's our club has to take into account and from what I have seen they generally take the safe option over the risky option. That is why Treloar will be a lot more expensive as well

How much room do we have in the salary cap, just who will the pies end up with, my head is spinning.
I reckon in all seriousness we are paying 95% of the cap this year with a view to a massive move in trade week with 105% of the cap to spend, i.e. an extra million to front-load.

But that is just the icing on the cap spend cake to my calculations.

In the last two years we have had 5 high paid players exit: Didak, Thomas, Shaw, Beams, Jolly. Then we have had some mid-cost players exit: Maxwell, Johnson, Ball, Lumumba. We have replaced them with mid-cost players like Adams, Varcoe, Greenwood, White. But have also lost Lynch, will not re-sign Young, have not re-signed Keeffe and Thomas.

We also have most of our kids locked away for years on reasonable cost long-term deals and by the time Swan and Cloke renegotiate, we will have more money to spend. If we also include some low-spend players in the trade period we have more still.

We have big money to spend imo. The problem will be draft positions to trade which is why I think Kreuzer would be a good move because he costs no picks and allows us to trade out a surplus ruck for value. I think we have some cattle to trade too which will mitigate our cap costs.

We have also had Reid, Sidey and Elliott re sign on what I would imagine to be much higher wages. Since 2011, I doubt anyone would have re-signed for unders. I think the cash surplus is a bit of a fallacy.

Reid signed until the end of 2018 on a four year deal which may have looked exy when it was signed but which will be moderate as it extends into the back-end. Sidey signed until the end of 2016. Elliot signed this year on a rush and I reckon it's going to be front-ended.

I reckon we have computed the next CBA, the exit of some lower paid players for draftees/rookies to cover those costs to a large degree.

Unless we're doing a Melbourne and over-paying the list, our young talents will be on moderate coin. We're right in position now to bring in quality players on front-ended contracts and then to have space for our developing kids to cash in at the back-half.

They just have to get their recruiting bang-on.

No more deals like Young, Lynch, White, etc

Get quality young kids (e.g. Treloar) or a proven gun (Dangerfield)

I like Bennell, but don't think Buckley would consider him with his off field problems. On field I agree Bennell would be a better list fit for us than Treloar, but I still think Treloar is suits some of our needs as well.

Treloar's speed and outside game is underrated on this board IMO, and if Treloar came to us he'd be our Dane Swan replacement, and it would also allow both Swan and Pendlebury to rest forward more and kick goals.

Also I think we'd have the currency to get both of them, Bennell would probably stop us from getting Aish.

Well thanks now you put a new dream in my head that won't happen.

Is treloar really that quick as people are saying?
