I really don't understand why we would be chasing Kruezer. He'd only be good if he came cheap (and if we get rid of Witts) but I'm sure I read somewhere that Carlton have offered him 1.5 million over four years. That's not cheap, if we offered 1.6 surely they'd match it?

Also, Aish? Why Aish? I mean, I'm not saying Broomy is the same player but do we really need another classy but lightly built mid/flanker? I was a massive fan in his draft year, and he was my preference over Shaz but I'd rather not have him now, I think. Lions will try bend us over too. Not worth the trouble.

Our main target should be and most likely is Treloar who, by position, we don't really need. But he's Treloar and everyone needs Treloar. So if he's coming in, I'd think a Seedsman and/or Ben Kennedy go out in some capacity (maybe just as friends though) (uhh, I mean maybe not necessarily to GWS but somewhere the opportunities are aplenty and we'll be given draft picks in return). Obviously draft picks are also at play to get Treloar, but I'd be pretty annoyed if we traded away two first rounders.

After this we desperately need a forward, although I just don't see us targeting one unfortunately. They will persist with Cloke, White and Moore. And probably try and move Reid forward where possible and get Sharenberg playing that smart defender type who reads the ball well and has a raking kick out of defense. Although, not sure he can do that role in season 2016.

Just as an aside, Treloar and McCarthy must be a gag, right? I think that's the dream trade for us but would cost us the house. No chance of happening, realistically.

If the contract we offer Kruezer isn't substantial the Blues would be crazy not to match it. The compo they'd receive wouldn't be worth letting him walk.

Whoever wants Kruezer will have to pay. You always have to pay overs to wrench a bloke out of their existing club. Not sure we have the coin to land him along with our other targets in Treloar and Aish.
In that case, I'm happy to give up the chase for kreuzer, in a trade scenario he would be worth a late first rounder you'd think. There are many clubs looking for a ruck who have one, Swans, Freo, etc. But problem is would Kreuzer go there? Yep, looks like we'll likely have to trade for him, and we won't have the cattle to get him, and the Blues will play hard ball with us.

Rather put Games into Moore playing Similar Position?
Yeah or just have White as the 3rd tall and 2nd ruck

Witts and Cox with the interchange rules changing could also play that role

Kruz coming to Collingwood would only be good because we are stealing him from Carlton

I say Cox is a better 2nd Ruck Choice then Witts. Cox has shown she can take Marks Forward and Well around the Ground and moves quite well for a 211cm Ruckman.

If we're talking about Kreuzer again, no I don't want him. He's not a forward and as a #1 ruck, he'd get in the way of Grundy's and Witts' development. Beyond that he's reached 20 games a season less times than Ben Reid (3 x 20+ games for Kruezer, 4 x 20+ games for Reid). So that should give you an idea of how injury prone he is.

I still think our number one target should be Treloar, IMO he's exactly what we need and should develop into a match winning midfielder. After we're sure we've got him the we can go after Aish, who I think would slot into our team nicely as we're lacking quality ball users.

Not interested in Kruezer at all, if we're going to go after a ruck lets target Giles from Essendon as he would come cheap and can play as either the number one ruck or number two ruck/third forward.

Anyone have any thoughts on Jack Watts? I know his name comes up every year, but he could probably be had for a 2nd rounder and I think he could be great on the wing or as a loose man in defence with his ball use very good (something we're lacking in defence).

In a very backwards way. Brisbane and Carlton getting two picks in the top 5 via compensation still works out for us. We don't plan on using ours either. We get moved down to pick 8-9, still in the top 10. Richmond may move out of the top 15 if they win a final. Considering gws need points, that's not very attractive at all.

It does matter IMO. I want to be in a good position to compensate GWS. If these dregs, Carlton and Brisbane get band 1 compo, then we are in a worse position to compensate our good friends GWS.
But it worsens every other teams who is in the race as well. And one pick place won't be the difference in weather Treloar leaves or stays, so its moot.

You guys do realize Kruezer is a restricted free agent? Meaning we can pick him up for free if he chooses us and Carlton don't match our offer? This would mean we could trade out Witts and imo he'd get us a late first/early second pick. So we'd be the same ruck wise but we'd have an extra late/first or early second draft pick. Whats not to like about that?

We get a guy who is average at best and extremely injury prone. Carlton get compensation.

I've heard they offered him 1.5 mil and he's not happy with it. We'd have to trump that figure and I seriously doubt that would happen.

Although, grain of salt because I can't remember where I heard it.

We offer Kreuzer a contract that will get them band 1 compo, or else they'll match it without hesitation.

I couldn't give a sh$t what compensation they get.. we get a decent ruckman in his prime and a top 25 draft selection for Witts!!! Carlton ain't gonna be a threat for a long time... we are looking to do some damage short term!.

Carlton would get pick 2, Weideman and Schache. Think about it, I don't want to give them such a free ride.

No way they'd ever get pick 2 for Kruezer. How'd you come up with that?? Hawks got pick 19 for Franklin when he got a $10mill offer from Sydney. Anyway, at the very least we should make him a big offer so they do have to match it!!! If they do it messes up their cap and if they don't we get him for nothing and can trade out Witts. All this talk about trading out Witts on this board ... Am I the only one who see a problem with a ruck list reading Grundy and Cox (rookie)?... this'd be the only way it could work imo unless we want to significantly weaken our backup ruck stock which we've finally now got in decent shape.

I can see that you honestly don't know how FA works, and who exactly does. If the Hawks had pick one, and the Swans paid $10M or whatever it was, they'd have gotten band 1 and received pick 2 as compensation.

If we offer Kreuzer a $600,000 contract, it might push it to band 1, and they get pick 2 as compensation as a result. I'd like to think we could get him, and the Blues get the compensation that would be about right, which would be pick 20. I think if that is the compensation they get, they would match the offer and force us to give something to get him.

I don't think we will get Kreuzer now. I think we should keep Witts.

Because the rule is the next pick after the pick in the band that is determined for the players contract.

It isnt Buddy vs Kruz. It is Buddy was Band 1, so Hawks go the first pick after their first round pick. Bad luck for them, it happened to be pick 19.

Carlton however are in a great position, because the pick after their first round pick will be... pick 2.

Kreuzer to Collingwood = Daisy to Carlton

If band 1 compensation is even a remote consideration that tells you all you need to know because someone is going to be overpaying by some way for that situation to occur.

We then have Kreuzer in terms of a list fit which is a poor one because we need speed, skill and KP ability. None of which is something he offers.

We need to stay well clear of that mess!
