Everyone screaming that we need this, and we need that.

You can't get it all in one shot.

This is the first year of what will probably be a 3-4 trade period approach to strengthening our list with matured aged players (not draft picks).

This year we are concentrating on the midfield with Aish, Treloar and Kreuzer.

Next year we are then likely to focus on the forward line if as expected Moore and Cloke need more help then just White or Witts provide.

It's not going to be fixed over night, we aren't bringing in everything we need in one trade period, it simply doesn't happen.

Thomas, Keefe, Young, Armstrong, (Dwyer?), (Gault?), (Karnezis?).

I'd say the last two are tradeable so will be traded, at least for now. Karnezis probably has the most to offer and is the most likely to be retained if a suitable trade doesn't materialise. Who do others think are on the chopping block?
I would keep Karnezis. He showed a fare bit yesterday especially as a half forward running through the midfield.

I reckon we have everything we need minus a Key Position Forward and maybe a forward crumber. One more trade period is enough. We're ready to rock n roll next year, presuming we sign up who we want and retain Scharenberg and Freeman.

There are some very cheap KPP's in the VFL.. namely Hartley and Mitch Brown.

Happy to rookie either.
Although i think Bombers will take Brown or both on their primary list.

"young forward Corey Gault underwent a hip and adductor release procedure" http://www.collingwoodfc.com.au/news/2015-09-10/magpies-stars-to-go-under-the-knife-2015

I think this would just be standard care for players injured whilst they are on our list (like workcover) so would have no bearing on whether he stays or goes.

Given he has had 2 years on rookie list and I think it's a maximum of 3 I think he's a reasonable chance of being kept for another year - especially if it's a shallow draft year. Whether Keeffe & Thomas are rookie listed this year or next (and whether anyone beats us to the punch) could impact the club's decision on Gault.
Gault has had 4 years at the club and you think he needs a 5th before making a call?

He is not AFL standard hell he struggles most weeks at VFL level.

I would rather we rookie any kid then retain him.

You'd think Gault, Young, Armstrong, Thomas, Keeffe, Dwyer would all pretty much be delisted or retired off.
Goldy, Sinkers, Seedy might all be shipped out in trades/steak knives -as might Witts in the Treloar deal.

My understanding is he struggles most weeks with injury which could impact his performance when he does take the field.

I don't have a strong opinion on him either way given I don't normally watch VFL (yesterday was first time in ages) and he's had very few AFL games.

All I said was that he's a reasonable chance of retention based on opinions that it's a shallow draft and he only takes a rookie not main list spot. Granted I've since seen people throwing around other names that could potentially better deserve a rookie spot eg Michael Still or Hartley but whilst a key forward would be nice on rookie list, Gault does offer flexibility in being athletic forward or back up ruck. I'm not sure the others have that flexibility.

I won't lose sleep over whatever decision the club makes and they will need to factor in that whilst others may be better we are no guarantee of being able to secure them.

I would further add that taking a kid as a rookie as you advocate might work for non key position player but I don't believe it the ideal otherwise. This could also be an argument for waiting until less talented key position players are Still's age before rookie listing them.

Micheal Still has shown 100x what Gault has shown they should be telling Gault thanx for your services but no longer needed and give Still his spot on the rookie list.

Nice if it was that easy but you haven't addressed the bit where I said "they will need to factor in that whilst others may be better we are no guarantee of being able to secure them"

There's a little narrative on the Drafts board RE Kreuzer...

We haven't cooled on him, but playing it out in the media that we are to maximize Jarrod Witts value.

C4 mentioned we haven't cooled on Kreuzer and he has very good Carlton mail.

What time are delistings announced?
Any time between now and when the list lodgement before the draft is due. People are assuming they will be announced today because the VFL is now finished, and there will probably be some announcement this week on some players but we may hold some until after trade week in case we can do trade for them first.

First lot will be today or tomorrow I'd imagine. Exit interviews for the guys who played VFL.

C Young, T Armstrong, C Gault would be on that first list

We are going to struggle to get both Treloar and Aish.

Treloar is worth what we got for Dayne Beams last year. 1st + 2nd + player.

Aish is worth a first round pick in the teens (say 13-19).
Like hell Treloar is worth as much as Beams, and Aish no more then 2nd rounder and seeds. 3rd round and seeds is fair.

My first thought was that it was a smokescreen.

Nah. We have the trade assets. It's a matter how we can negotiate to do the best we can.

Even if the above were true, using your example for Treloar than trading next years 1st rounder for Aisho gets both deals done.
