If Freeman has a genuine offer of $250k on the table of course he has to consider it. If we don't get close to it then he could walk, who wouldn't?

So the question is how bad are his hamstring issues? Our medical staff should be in the best possible position to judge. The recruiters thought Freeman was worth pick 10 in a strong draft 2 years ago so we should have the budget available to keep him if we want to.

According to SEN Hrovat could be available and wouldn't cost much. I remember a few on here were into him a few years ago. Is he worth looking at and what sort of player is he (i.e. would he fill a need for us)?

Hrovat was picked up just behind Kennedy in their draft from memory, maybe we could swapsie.

Yeah liked him in his draft year but not sure we need another midfied midget. Would prefer we stuck with Blair and BenKen.

If Freeman is asking for 250k+ then adios..

From a base wage in the 60's to 250k+ without playing 1 senior game..?

Get a 2nd round pick and use it in the Treloar deal. Club needs to take a stronger stance on players trying to extort cash out of the club.
No, the base rate for a 1st pick in their 2nd year is 93k. On top of that you get 5k match payments per game.

250k is peanuts.

Regarding Dangerfield - personally I can't see him coming to Collingwood, but I seriously hope we are up to our eyeballs in this deal behind the scenes, even if it is to just keep Geelong honest. I'd hate to see him head to the Cat's for next to nothing.

Regarding Freeman - laughable if that's true. The club wouldn't be so stupid to pay a player $250k who is yet to play a game. I imagine we've already invested that and more into his rehabilitation from injury and to come out and ask for that sort of coin is a little cheeky. At some point players need to give something back to the club and once they do they will be more than adequately remunerated. I'd be happy to pay base wage of low - mid $100k with incentives like senior games played and performance based measures but I suspect Freeman would be wary of this type of contract because he knows he hasn't proved anything at AFL level.

What's the deal with incentives and performance measures in contracts for AFL footballers. A few years ago these were pretty common in many industries, I know I had incentives and performance measures in my employment which kept me honest, so why can't these be flowed on to AFL footballers.
Pretty sure its something along the lines of..
Hawks pick me up. My potential earnings for the year if I play every single game is 500k
If I don't play every single game my base earning is 300k ( thus incentive to stay fit and play all year )
But for a salary cap contribution for the year its budgeted with my max earning.
Where as with some players like Thomas when he went to carlton they promised him 800k or something regardless of if he plays ( for security ) where as we were 550 into 750 if he played all year.
Might be a little off but its something like that.

We would effectively be paying him 3.5 times more base wage without playing a single senior game and only a handful of less than impressive VFL outings.

There are no other teams.
Greg Swann "Martin is contracted and he is going nowhere."

Either they finally get the joke or this is the saddest thing I have ever seen. You would think Beams could at least spot them a couple of bucks to get one PR guy up there.
He's staying otherwise Swann would've said " Martin-O is contracted-O and he is going nowhere-O."
