If he goes to Hawthorn, they can put him in the Luke Hodge house.
A fine example to learn from...worked for Dayle Garlett.
I just think that his issues aren't too bad.

Racking up lines and getting into a drunken arguement... that used to be a tuesday night for Swanny.

Damien Barrett's trade report on Triple M:

* Stevie J - not convinced on Tigers due to their interest in Treloar (not sure of the link given Johnson is a FA unless it's a cap issue?)
* Treloar - expects to get to Pies, but Tigers haven't given up
* Yarren - to Richmond
* Bennell - Richmond doing due diligence
* Carlisle - race between Saints and Blues. Carlisle sees himself as exclusively a backman. North would have seen him as a swingman. Carlisle not interested so North out. Essendon would prefer someone other than Blues due to pre-season draft threat. Carlisle apparently wants a deal for
* Stanton - yet to resign for Essendon
* Seedsman - won't be at Pies
* Melksham - to Melbourne
* Bugg - watch this space, could be on the way out of GWS
* Schulz - could stay at Port as interest drying up
* Watts - out of Melbourne
* Kreuzer - Pies dropped interest. Blues want him. Barrett doesn't think that Kreuzer will stay at Blues however.

Obviously Adelaide would be smart to match the Geelong offer knowing full well Danger doesn't want to stay. It means Geelong will have to trade pick 14 and a player or pick 14 and a player ton another club to get two first round draft picks. If Judd cost Keneedy, 3 and 20 what should Geelong pay?

Thanks BJ. I'm usually home on the weekends studying because I work full time during the week, and I generally have the radio on. So I figure I can type out what I hear on the trade news for people who are too busy to listen too it.

I haven't heard anything about him so I'm just floating this out there, but what are peoples thoughts on trading Sidebottom this year?

His contract concerns me heading into 2016 and I can just see Melbourne being into him for a ridiculous figure with their inside stocks top drawer. It might be a way to get good value early whilst at the same time avoiding the speculation that comes from a twelve month contract saga.

For TD and anyone else similarly prone to knee-jerk reactions this is not me stating that I want to trade Sidebottom. It's a case of me putting forward a discussion on the pros and cons!!

If someone puts up a strong offer for him we should definitely strongly consider it. Had a very meh year, he is overrated by Collingwood fans.

My whole excitement in the Treloar trade is to then contemplate us having one of the most powerful midfields in the competition. Sidebottom is a vital part of that vision for me.

I know that Sidebottom will have suitors with lots of cash to splash, and some part of me is pessimistic about the prospect of keeping him, but I can only hope that the club does everything in its power to do just that.

We'd just be one elite mid-fielder short next year again even if we get Treloar.... So only for a straight swap for another elite mid or pick #1 (which won't happen obviously), otherwise it's just a massive backwards step.

There are very few actual untouchables at clubs [apart from Brisbane].
I wouldn't say he's untouchable.
So yeah, interesting question.
What is his value?

24 year old classy winger that performs best in big games don't grow on trees, would hope the club gives him a nice offer.

I'd like to keep Sidebottom but if he leaves next year we'll definitely get band 1 compo so I'm not overly worried. I'd only trade him this year for an overpayment like a top 5 pick

How would you view pick 4 from Essendon? I personally think they'd go for it.
Who is likely to be available and do they project as better players than Sidey? I think Id take a fair bit of convincing about taking on an 18yo and giving up Sidebottom. Wouldn't want to end up with a Fiora or Sampi.

I like your thought process. However Buckley and Pert have stated several times that they are only looking at a small minority of players that would improve our deficient areas as they want ensure we have enough salary cap to offer $$$ to Pendlebury and Sidebottom who become RFA's next year

It'll be interesting to see at what point the conversation amongst the average fan (league wide) moves toward considering trading players ahead of FA to maximise value.

Sidebottom just feels like the type of player a club will try to raid us for. He's a $500-600k type, but he will receive $800k offers so it'll be interesting to see how it plays out.

The feedback in general was about what I expected though so cheers.

FWIW the suggestion that we were into Kreuzer for the obscene amount we were does give me a degree of confidence. All be it not to the level of others.
