It seems our strategy is becoming a little clearer as the actual trade period comes around.

Trying to get second round picks for Seeds, Freeman and Kennedy obviously means we are going to do something with those picks once we get them.

2 options;

1. Use them to get a late first round pick that we use for Aish if he nominates us
2. Use them to get back into the first round and actually use that pick

Where would Aish go in this draft if he was in the pool? (Granted he's got 2 years senior development compared to the kids).
Losing players we are content to lose, i.e. Kennedy and Seedsman, for (Probably) second rounders sounds like a great proposition to me.

Freeman leaving is annoying as he has lost considerable value simply due to not being able to get on the park. If it was due to poor form/ability i.e Toumpas, I think it would sit more comfortably.

If we can get 24 (Freeman), 25 (Kennedy) and maybe 32/34 (Seedsman) I reckon we will be fairly satisfied.

Perhaps we can package them up to snag another first and chase a Kpf in the draft.

No.

On a separate note the whole emphasis on trade "period" is so OTT and contrived its beyond stupid.

The trade/ free agency window should open the day following the GF and close with the last pick of the national draft. No trade radio, no clubs meeting at Etihad and no media frenzy around every little piece of information being pulled apart to the enth degree.

It's about time the AFL took control and righted the ship on this bizarre time of year because limiting clubs to a window of 11 days to make changes to their list is insane (10 for trade week and 1 for ND).

End rant!
I like this a lot!

2015 year to draft speed speed and more speed
.. as well as that, the draftees need to have patient dispositions, reach well over 174cm, pass a rigorous douche bag test, and have a sound 'thigh to hammy muscle' ratio, to reduce likelihood of hamstring issues, free of compartment syndrome ... & not forgetting composure under pressure, a tackle to hurt demeanour, good game sense, ability to follow team structures, give off to a player in better position, willingness to play a role for betterment of the team, 2-way runner, great side step, good spatial awareness, neat disposal by hand & foot, receptiveness to tattoos & high endurance ..

That would be a good result, but I think we might be jumping the gun a bit thinking we are going to get all these picks in the 20's. I might be a bit pessimistic, but I wouldn't pay it for the players on offer. I've got my doubts that opposition clubs will either. Happy to be proven wrong of course

I guess the standing theory is that with a seemingly shallow draft some teams may prefer to look at players already in the system a few years.

Settle sauce police and have and don't have to many shot's
Come on Paige, don't be like that. He has a point about most "sources" seemingly being bullshit. It is funny how most people are happy to accept information as fact if it seems like good news. They even forget about it if it doesn't turn out to be true. The really smart ones will word their "information" in such a way that means they can never really be right or wrong, yet they will accept credit for being right if it is remotely close to what was or wasn't said.

They (the AFL) love it, it gives them another few weeks of publicity.
I'd agree that that's the primary reason for the current state of play.

I bet though that they'd love it a lot more if they had trade speculation running right up to and on the day of the draft! For instance how is footy kept in the news from October 22 to draft day?

Unfortunately the current system is completely backwards.

Take Adelaide for example they haven't even appointed a coach yet and their best player is about to walk out. Despite that they're limited to that minuscule window to correct their list. For the good of the game it needs to be corrected.

The only legitimate grounds as to why it's structured the way it is is due to the AFLPA not wanting players to potentially start pre-season with one club only to then be traded to another.

doubt we will get 25 from Melbourne for Kennedy, they are reported to be chasing Melksham and Bugg as well who could both be rated higher by them than BK (but not worth a first rounder).
Think something like Kennedy to Melb, Toumpas to Crows, 32 to us is more likely.

Yeah the only one I think is a bit off in terms of value is Kennedy.

A more reasonable deal would be 25 for Kennedy and our third.

In terms of Freeman, well quite honestly if the Saints don't like it they can get stuffed.

I'm still quietly confident we'll get Aish. No real reason, just a hunch. If Brisbane plain and simply refuse though, I hope he shafts them and goes to the draft. Surely they won't be that stupid, right? Why doesn't he just insist on going to the draft, tell them now. They'd want something in return for him, even Brisbane can't be that stubborn can they?!
It's an unusual situation. The fact he has said he wants to come to the Pies but may re-sign if he doesn't get there?! Half arsed attitude or have the Lions promised him BIG$$$$. That would be the only explanation.

Only troll in that was the Paige part ;), I just saw someone accuse you of being Paige the other day in retaliation to you calling everyone you don't like Paige and it made me lol so I thought I'd run with it. I do sit firmly in the "I call bullshit camp" though. But just because I call bullshit doesn't mean I don't enjoy reading the elusive source material. I even hope it's true that they have a source and believe/know a select few do. But every second man and his dog thinks he has a source these days.
