Can't stand Matthew Lloyd but his article in the age is spot on regarding our recruiting.
Just more speculation when we haven't recruited anyone yet. We don't know the exact roles these guys are being considered for. If the club wants to bring in 2 experienced players, I'd expect them to consider a lot more then 2 players. Consider 5 or so and then pick/offer up for the best 2. No mention of WHE or Hurley in that article. Convenient or oversight. Like WHE are we likely to have spoken too or been interested in a number of younger players. Same thing, target 5, select/offer the best 2. Picking 2 targets and forgetting everyone else is what Richmond had done. Miss out on guys like Adams, Tyson, Shiel & Treloar and finish with scraps like Townsend because you haven't done the groundwork on other players.

We need a back-up ruckman who is willing to play mainly VFL, if Witts leaves. There's not a heap in the offering that are capable AFL players and would come cheap. Maric fits that bill. Wil Minson could be another. I'm sure there are state leaguers out there that could also fill that role, who won't be youngsters. That is an absolute list need.

Varcoe, Howe, Aish and Treloar have all been very good recruits over the past couple of years.

If we sign Wells on a 3 year deal, Mayne 4/5 years at $500k p.a. and NDS on a playing only deal then I'll join in the condemnation of this years recruiting. Until then, no bed-wetting for me.

Can't fault anything you've said here. Lloyd has just done the usual, superficial opinion piece based on speculation, rumour and allegedlies. Slams giving Mayne a 4 year contract because he has underperformed over the last 3 years but in the next breath praises Hawthorn for going after Vickery as a smart move ... credibility, window, out you go. Where's the analysis of Richmond or North for example, the state of their list, recruiting history over the last 3 years and errors? Tumbleweeds and the sound of crickets.

Let's wait and see what actually occurs this trade period and then do the analysis versus bagging out the club based on rumour and scuttlebut.

Do we finally know the gay pies player about to come out?
Coming out of contract? that we know.
The other stuff, who cares in this day and age.
As long as people are happy.

On this matter as an ethics thing: seriously why would anyone care what two consenting adults actually do together

Back on trade topic:

I just remind everyone that the media will attempt to link everyone to us.
Does not make it so.
We may end up with say two more established players or so.
Can't see the harm.

I'd like us to trade into the top 20 drag wise or even smaller like top 15 or top 10

That may take some doing, be nice to pick up a fine junior.

I suspect we will get both Brown and Daicos

Collingwood:

Gain: WHE, Stewart
Lose 2017 2nd Rnd, 2016 3rd Rnd

Pick 30 onwards used for the points needed for Daicos and Brown

Take Picks 14, 20 and 25 to the draft taking the best available kpp's

Following this we:

* Add a few experienced heads for the ones lost this year.
* Have a back up ruckman in Maric who can also teach Brodie.
* Add new young talent onto the list.
* Have depth in the kpp stocks. I know Stewart hasn't done much but at the very least he will provide support for Darcy and has shown glimpses. We will be targeting an elite kpf in next years offseason.
* Using a 1st rnd this years draft gives us the currency to go after an elite tall fwd next year.
* Pick crumbing fwds in Brown and Daicos
Very good and realistic assessment of our players value. Hopefully it plays out that way.

Pretty good effort..

The only thing which is very little chance of happening is Frost and Oxley for pick 20.

2 spuds doesn't equal a good pick.

The rest is bang on!

Can't stand Matthew Lloyd but his article in the age is spot on regarding our recruiting.
But it is a click bait article.
He raises some issues, age v youth in recruiting, uses hawthorn but hawthorn are taking a big risk in getting omeara who is two years injured with a nasty patella injury.
Lloyd is just another opiner looking to stay relevant in the media.
That's it to stay recruiting old forgies only is a correct path, but one or two or so is not the end of the world as we know it either.

Yeah he's lost form, but remember that's what many of us said about Howe and Varcoe, and they turned things around pretty good.

Mayne is a FA and he fills a need for us - even if it's just depth in the end, and he costs us no picks... Who knows, he could turn out to be another Medhurst. Worth the punt
Mayne does not fill a need at Collingwood

Good trade scenarios. Think lions will want more than frost + Oxley for pick 20 though.... we'd probably have to throw in another fringe player (think Goodyear) or a 3rd round pick to get such a sweet pick.

Pick 30 for Williams would work better if we swapped 3rd and 4th round picks with eagles as well

Phillips
Crocker
Wills

Might be enough to get started
Of that lot only Crocker fills me with confidence in that he actually has a few neat tricks up his sleeve.
He can crumb, he is a straight shooter, can mark over head and has a bit of toe to boot.

Wills seems like a honest trier and Phillips is still a little in between at the moment.

I am praying we dont get more than one player that i would classify as mature age, although as Loyd said in his aricle that could be wishfull thinking.
Eventhough until it happens i can only hope!
Would prefer Stewart one thousand times over Mayne, at least the kid is young and Mayne is on a downhill spiral.
Worse case scenario over Stewart he dosent improve we delist him after his second year.Best case we find a YOUNG key position player in his early 20s to compliment Moore.
With Mayne worse case scenario he continues to show the form at Collingwood he showed in Fremantle this year , and were either stuck with him for 4 years! Or pay him off big bucks to piss off! Makes no sence to me.
If Mayne or Wells come either should not be given more then 2 years! Personally would be happy not seeing either in black and white
In 2017!

There has been talk about these 6 players possibly being up for trade. All play forward. If one was to choose on 2016 statistics alone who would one choose?
