Our draft day focus will be on our FS and accumulating sufficient points to secure Brown & Daicos. They'll burn effigies of Hine & Eddie at the Holden Centre if they bigger these two up.
Outside of them I don't expect we'll be overly active on the pick front in the first 2 rounds, if clubs bid earlier than we expect for these two it may well soak up our points and push into the back end rounds. Like when Doggies bid early for Darcy. Not exactly sporting of them.

It looks like our activity will more likely involve direct cattle swaps in the trade period e.g. Williams to Freo and a some cross dealings with another club to secure us Mayne.

I'm still getting my head around this points system.
The father's club, if it wishes to select the son, must then use its next one or more draft picks until the total points value of the surrendered picks adds up to the value of the draft pick used by the bidding, less a discount – which is either 20% of the bid value or 197 points (equivalent to pick No. 56), whichever is greater.
Any points left over after reaching the bid value result in the draft pick being shuffled down the order.

Outside of FS selections we need to focus on our KPD stocks - FB & CHB that can move laterally combined with running backmen. Brown isn't a solution and poor old Reid is stuck together with tape. We need a trade coup in this space more than any other area on the ground.

We can't launch a premiership campaign over the next few years without getting the back 6 cemented.

Based on this year, 27 is overs. He is a vanilla pudding on 2 legs.
Based on this year where he was putting out career best numbers in the VFL but being kept out of the seniors by injury and the exceptional form of Grundy?

You clearly didn't watch much VFL this year. Witts has improved a great deal. The preliminary final was an aberration, not the norm.

Pick 27 for a guy who has played VFL all year and isn't in our best 22 is pretty good.

If GC are offering that we should be making that deal happen in the first few seconds of trade week before they change their mind.
Brian's Taylor wasn't in Richmond's best 20 when we got him because they had Roach.

Reality is, it's not what his value is to us, it's the value he can be for the team he goes to. Clubs will be prepared to pay a little more if it means that the player coming in will help out a) their gameplan; b) add flexibility to their list and; c) bring others into the game.

Continue rebuild, no player over 27/28.
Keep the building works going.

My only slight difference with you, I have no issues with one or two older types if they come cheap.
Eg if we get Wells and he assists with our cap and adds a splash of class to the team, that's ok.

Most keen though on the development of our younger group coming through together. If they are healthy and develop maybe just maybe we will get there. The group is laden with some fine types maybe the bulk will be extra good supporting our current super elite Pendlebury:

Grundy, De Goey, Maynard, Adams, Moore, Fasolo, Eliiot, Treloar, Crisp, Langdon, Scharenberg, Aish, Marsh, Phillips, Sinclair, Ramsay, Wills, Crocker, Smith.

And we have already Sidebottm, Varcoe, Howe, Greenwood.
Into the future who knows with Sier?

So, overall there is what to work with just need a few to jump to the next levels of graded player.

Exciting times, a way to go, but I look at who can become elite for us, or A grade.

Don't know if said earlier but Geelong going down and only Duckwood & DangerFigjam only standing up will make Cats go harder than ever to trade in a classy midfielder, maybe Wells or Lids!

Age profile? They need fresh blood. We are buying ourselves time for the young brigae to come through.

If. Also Witts is not RFA or FA so we still have to agree to deal. It's not as if we're without leverage here.
It's not exactly a big 'if'. When was the last time a player asked for a trade but didn't nominate his destination?

At the end of the day, we'll have a little leverage, but if it comes down to 27 take it or leave it, I think we'll grab it and run.

Umm GC don't even have a pick 27 they have pick 28. Can see us wanting 21 or 22 and meeting in the middle for their pick 25 worst case..pick 22 best case IMO for dimWitts

ROUND TWO
19 Essendon
20 Brisbane Lions
21 Gold Coast (received Fremantle's second-round pick)
22 Gold Coast
23 Carlton
24 Brisbane Lions (received St Kilda's second-round pick, via Collingwood)
25 Gold Coast (received Richmond's second-round pick)
26 Collingwood
27 Melbourne
28 Gold Coast (received Port Adelaide's second-round pick)

There was nothing wrong with the Dogs bidding on Darcy. He would have been perfect for them. Can you imagine their team this year with Moore in the forward line?

I think it was more a dig at his "competitiveness". Witts season was strong from a number of stat related areas, but he is prone to limpness and always will.

Setting the bar at 25 is where its been at a long way out. Witts choosing GC probably gets us 28 and him being open to any move likely means low 20's. It's pretty open and shut, but doesn't take anything away from his flakyness.

Good chance Hine will be gone after this draft. He won't be worried.

It does depend. If Carlton play funny buggers and bid on Brown at pick 5 then we let them have him we'll trade him back for unders in a couple of years.
