I think you're both missing the point. It's not about the mids and what they can and can't do, the issue is we have zero depth in any key positions. Sure Pendles can play forward, as can Greenwood, however, if Moore gets injured (again) or Reid gets injured (again) who on our list can fill the gap?

The best clubs in the AFL have a quality key forward and then atleast 1 player at the very least on the list who can play the role to an acceptable standard if for whatever reason the key forward goes down. Sydney - Buddy and Tippet, Hawthorn - Gunston and Roughhead, Crows- Jenkins and Walker, GWS - Cameron and Patton/Lobb, Geelong - Hawkins and Clarke, West Coast - Kennedy and Darling, North - Waite and Brown, Dogs - Stringer and Redpath. I think we should be trying to emulate how these clubs are run rather than Brisvegas who have 30 mids and no talls
don't get sucked into the key forwards win flags thing. they don't anymore.

Personally I don't like hearing news until it's happened. Anything beforehand is filtered out as unsubstantiated bullshit until proven otherwise.

Geez only person to get anything right on Bigfooty makes me not want to post updates, check out the last 6 months from Swan retiring 2 weeks before it was annouced, Caff taking a role at Collingwood, Brown being 50/50 on a contract 3 months back, plenty more, tough critics.
At least you've got your own website. And it's a pretty fabulous one at that!

The Dogs won a flag with practially no key forward as Boyd played majoirty of the game as a ruck.
You don't need a KPF to win a flag.

I'm not saying forwards win flags, im saying if we are looking at the case studies we have in front of us with the Crows/West Coast/Hawthorn in particular having strong sets of go to forwards vs teams like Brisbane/Carlton/Freo who are built around mids and almost no quality forwards, why would be be going with the later as the best method?

Stringer literally sits in the goals square, almost never leaves the forward 50. He is in the team as a go to option going forward, that seems like a pretty good definition of a key forward. The Bulldogs also finished 7th so you want to discredit Stringer and Redpath (who would of been playing bar injury) what about all the other sides who finished above them on the ladder in 2017?

No Dave they're part of the machine known as the AFL and it's their job to keep the machine oiled.
In other words, they create stories that keep us talking about footy for as long as possible.
That is fine but they should really write stuff just for the sake of it. Check there Sources 1st and Make sure they are not causing Trouble

You don't need a KPF to win a flag.
But you either need to kick enough goals or restrict the opposition from kicking goals to win a game, neither of which we are particularly good at just now.

I'd argue the last 4 flags have been won without a true dominant key forward. dogs didn't have one. roughead isnt a dominant big (he plays more like medium tall) and gunston is a 3rd tall. their biggest talls were the resting rucks in hale and macevoy.

buddy is an interesting case. hasn't won a GF since going to Sydney and the hawks have won 2 since. were the hawks better when he left? and is he the really helping Sydney win a flag?

I'm happy with multiple mobile marking targets in moore, white, Elliot, fasolo, mayne.

carlton an brisbane have drafted young talls in the last couple of drafts. we'll see how they go in a few years.

He literally sits in the goal square.

You'd think he'd at least have the sense to play standing up. No wonder he was dropped during the season. Lazy bugger.
