How did you feel about Fletcher Roberts, Joel Hamling, Alir Alir, Kaidan Brand, Tom Barass, Tom Clury etc at the start of the year ? The role of full back is changing dramatically in fact point me in the direction of a hulking traditional FB. Maybe Steven May and D Talia but even they have offensive talents and more often than not depend on 3rd man up help or zoning defenders filling leading holes (or in our case Blairy filling leading holes at the wrong end of the ground). Not suggesting Dunn is a world beater or special just not a down grade on what we have had for the last 2 seasons. Browns best was better than Dunns arguably but that has been let behind. Frost just does not have a footy IQ commensurate with what is needed today.
That's a more fair post but if you admit Brown's best was better than Dunn's how do you expect Dunn to be better when he'll turn 30 at the start of next season, especially given all the names that you mentioned are relatively young?

We've recruited one player and lost three. We may still bring in another player. You do understand that we need some depth in the backline, surely?
No we don't, IMO. Reid, Keeffe and a mature state league player was plenty of cover I was all for the direction we were taking! We've also only lost 1 KPD.

I think your logic is problematic here - the list is no different than if BROWN stayed (in terms of opportunity for younger players).
Dunn has just replaced BROWN.
Exactly my point!! When the whole point of trade period is to improve your list how does getting rid of one meh player and replacing them with another meet that objective?! It's like banging your head against a brick wall at times lol.

The issue with Gubby coming from GWS. He's coming from a team full of absolutle stars. Their worse player is probably Rhys Palmer, and he won the Rising star a decade ago.
He probably isn't gonna be okay with anyone who isn't a B- grade player, which is fair enough but it takes time(or AFL handouts) to build a list (mostly)full of stars.
I think Gubby knows a thing or two about footy.

Well if we do get Lynden maybe the cheer squad can get behind him by chanting this every time he gets the pill...

It would add a bit of colour to our games I reckon.

Just making the best of a bad situation.

he will be better in the team for the way the game is now played! Brown is a good defender but doesnt fit the team moving forward.

because they are deteriorating at a different rate and their respective strengths are having more or less relevance to where the game (and their field position) is going. Dunn plateaued and has a weapon that is still relevant. He has reasonable closing speed. I also don't notice him ball watching too often.
Browny had good closing speed but that is reducing, poor foot skills coupled with slow decision making and he admitted to being lost in the modern zoning defensive schemes (i hate that terminology so much but this is where we now are). Don't really know that age has anything to do with it more what your attributes are and whether they are relevant to where the games is now and where it is going.
