I call it now, we are going to have the worst percentage in 2017. Why retire Toovey to bring in Dunne. Makes no sense. How can we have salary cap problems playing in the bottom half of the ladder?

What else could go wrong from here:
- WHE could go to blues or Roos.
- Cloke stays
- Gubby gets suspension / fine for GWS drug affair and we have no footy boss
- injuries to key players like every year in football.
WHE won't go elsewhere. IF he is not a Pie in 2017 then he stays at the Giants

The players we have lost were fringe players, Frost, Marsh and Brown were not regulars this year and would struggle to be next year. Dunn and Wells are both excellent users of the ball and will actually be able to hit a target. So l dont mind both coming in, and Mayne gives us another target up forward, plus the forward pressure he applies should be followed by all our forwards next year. I dont mind what we are doing currently, looks as though up to 9 players will be moved on from this year, so if we can get Hoskin - Elliott that should be it from us this trade period.
Brown played 16 games this year, Marsh played 10 as did Frost.

Dunn played 4 for Melbourne.

That's not even a fringe player. That's a bloke who's been given up on and forgotten about. Yet we reckon he's worth a punt on. Absolutely ridiculous. Good kick or not if Melbourne (who are at the level we're supposedly at ie young and developing and supposedly pushing for finals next year) don't think he's a worthwhile part of their future why the hell do we think he's part of ours when he's another year older again?

It's illogical recruiting but par for the course considering our "acquisitions" thus far this trade period.

I haven't read this much anger, derision and loathing of a new Magpie since.................

.. since..... 'The Anvil'.

Let's just see how he goes for a year. He's only a short term stop-gap and it's not like he's replacing any real talent.
And Dunn over their careers has been a far superior player to the Anvil.

Brown gets first bullet. Sick of his high floaters being intercepted, especially when attempting to switch the play. Some of the goals he has directly conceded in this way were horrific.
Frost gets second bullet. Great closing speed and leap doesn't compensate for giving his opponent too much space, fumbling under pressure, horrible decision-making and bad kicking.
Keep Dunn. Need someone to keep Keeffe out of the AFL side and I'll enjoy watching Dunn kick torpies from the defensive goal square to Treloar in the middle of the ground.
Agreed.

Doubt the club will want to be seen effectively trading Cloke for Dunn, so no, I wouldn't think so.

I'd like to think if we get Dunn it'll be for a pick worth no points, i.e. 83.
Well I hope so too. That it's a Pick we would not use anyway BUT Dunn is Contracted so we might have to pay a bit more Sadly

Not so sure, see Mitchell and Lewis. Not sure on how Melbourne's salary cap looks but maybe they need to free up some space for Hibberd and Lewis. You never know.

LOVE that we're getting rid of all the ball-butchers. Brown, Toovey, Macaffer, Gault, Frost, Marsh, Cloke - how the hell did we carry so many bad kicks for so long? Blair and Sinclair are the only truly terrible kicks left on our list (with occasional dishonourable mentions to Williams, Greenwood and Adams).

I don't know what the surprise is here.

Overall plan: Compete for premiership in next 3 years while we have Pendlebury.
Gameplan: Keep ball in possession and in forward half, defense with quick counter-attack, get ball in midfield ASAP.
Drafting plan: Better kicks (especially in the back line).

Got rid of bad kicks: Brown, Frost, Cloke, Toovey, Marsh
Brought in decent kicks: Wells, Dunn
Brought in defensive forward: Mayne

Old so we got them at a discount but they will be around for next 3 years.

If the plan fails over next 3 years then we do a fire sale and rebuild around our current '93 and younger kids.

Think we'll end up with pick 50 for Cloke. Once Stevens gets traded to the saints they'll on trade it to us. Not much difference between 63 and 61 in the scheme of things.

Playing only 10 games is a fringe player, and Brown played through necessity. The days of players such as Brown has passed, but he has been a great servant for our club and wish him well at the Saints. Plus his disposal was average coming out of defence. Dunn is quicker, and can break the lines, plus a very good kick out of D50. Before bagging the guy, wait and see what he delivers next year. If he has a good year, bet you will be one of the first to jump on here and praise him.
