After the Wells trade, I thought the club might have been chasing a sugar hit on the ladder position, to save some coaching jobs. But based on the trading and player turnover since then, there is no way we are heading for final in 2017.
Dose this mean Bucks believes that regardless of our finishing position, his coaching position is safe???
Where are we heading?

I actually agree with you regarding the Brown v Dunn comparison but Brown chose to move clubs. Now whilst we could have matched the offer we all know this almost never happens, particularly when the the original club thinks he is being offered too much. So the question is how do we replace Brown when we have no decent picks or players to trade?
What would you have done?
As some previously mentioned the Dunn move is a sideways move at best. He has reached his ceiling and will not be taking us to any next level from where we are (nor for that matter will Mayne).

We needed to either trade our way into a better draft position (and as unpalatable as that is that would've meant giving up one of our promising midfield players or an established player) to gain access to the top end KPP talent in the draft or we need to get creative and find a kid of untapped potential in a development league who could potentially flourish in the AFL system. It doesn't fill an immediate need for the loss of Brown but it would be more sensible as a long term option to improve our list and future.

But we played it safe and cheap. We've replaced lower end talent (all be it a dependable type of good character) with more lower end talent and that to me is no recipe for success short or long term.

Interesting that Brown said that he felt Richo would help him grow as a player. Obviously didn't think Bucks was doing that...
That may be the case but he also did need to go to the pile of preconceived statements for players at new clubs. Not a novel or outlandish comment.

So because we have brought in dunn for nothing that means we can't draft a good KPD project? The way i see it, we can take care of both the future and the short-term with the acquisition of Dunn.

No mention of the picks we'll likely get in for Frost and Witts. We'll still be right. Obviously we'll get something for Cloke as well.

And as the article says, it would be our 3rd round pick affected, not our first.

I'm still pretty comfortable with where we sit in that regards.
Happy that this has been clarified.. Copped some abuse a while back for trying to put this point across..

I can understand the angst about the recruitment of Mayne but Dunn is little more than a depth selection, probably brought about by the unexpected loss of Marsh. The main issue I have with our backline is the lack of leadership and organisation.

Was thinking the same thing. All these dads army top ups were just to save Buckleys job next year in the hope of making finals.
However this last month with the departures and seemingly general desperate recruiting, he must be confident of signing an extension before September next year because bottom 6 is more likely with a defence that will concede more than 100 points every game.

Yep. Makes you wonder if we have something else up our sleeve for the rest of the trade period and maybe a State player in the draft.

Has anyone heard what the Saints offered Brown? If its anything north of $400K, I'm glad we didn't match
Apparently contract amounts are only an issue when Collingwood recruit a player. The media just runs another agenda when a player like Brown leaves.

Last time I checked Collingwood has made zero trades so far.
