I'd keep Frosty and axtually play him.
well that's about all I can take of this shit you are a serious waste of time for my eyesight, you need to find a new pass time seriously if you cant say anything nice don't say anything at all. I get you have the right to criticise but you don't have to be a knob about it.
The fact that you have expressed your opinion on frost playing over someone coming in shows that you have no idea what you are talking about most times. In the words of TD welcome to my ignore list....

Yes have to admit Tooves had a bad year.
I don't know about Dunn though. Was he a good player in a really bad team? Some are suggesting so.
The salary cap was mentioned on trade radio as a reason pies were going for a cheap option. Do they mean the cap is tight or that we need to squeeze a couple of cheap trades / pre season draft picks on depth players for the defence.
Trade radio are wrong. We have plenty of room in the cap. Take a look at who just left and retired or week be traded.

So because we have brought in dunn for nothing that means we can't draft a good KPD project? The way i see it, we can take care of both the future and the short-term with the acquisition of Dunn.
This. I will feel lot more confident if we can land Xavier Richards and Logue or Cox. Corr would be a good pick up too. Trengrove is a free agent next year i think we will go after him then.

I can understand the angst about the recruitment of Mayne but Dunn is little more than a depth selection, probably brought about by the unexpected loss of Marsh. The main issue I have with our backline is the lack of leadership and organisation.
I'm actually less angsty about Mayne (although fairly underwhelmed by it) as I can see the theory behind getting him but Dunn I just don't get.

Even as depth it's confusing. He's 30, he's no longer best 22 at Melbourne, he's not quick, he's not outstanding 1v1 he basically doesn't improve us anywhere excpting he's a nice kick.

I was reading the Melbourne guys who said he's alright if he's directly standing a man but gets lost and hurt when implementing a zone defence. Wasn't that one of the primary knocks on Brown and Frost as well? So we've let two guys go and replaced him with a bloke with the same flaws but older.

It's beyond strange in my view and I really do hate shitting on a new recruit (which is why I kept away from the Mayne thread) but it's warranted in this case though I'm not blaming Lynden either.

I dont really understand Dunn apart from a semi desperate pick up because we don't have enough KPF. I didnt see him lastyear principally because I didnt watch Demons 2nds playing

He will be 30 yo early next season. Demons supporters have suggested he is ok 1 on 1 but zone defence and the modern game have passed him by. He struggled to get a senior game in 2016 and while a youth preference may partly explain that you would have to think the other explanation is his game is on a downward trajectory. Presumably he gets a 2 year contact as he is already under contract at Melbourne. His chance to get a game at Collingwood seems to be based on the fact there is no one else to fill the position rather that any inherent value he has. Despite that maybe Keeffe does outperform him and we bring in a 30 yo to play in our VFL team for 2 years tying up a spot on the list. If we add 29yo Silvagni to the list who has 53 games in 7 seasons and only 14 games in the last 3 season we are just trying to look stupid.

Was thinking the same thing. All these dads army top ups were just to save Buckleys job next year in the hope of making finals.
However this last month with the departures and seemingly general desperate recruiting, he must be confident of signing an extension before September next year because bottom 6 is more likely with a defence that will concede more than 100 points every game.
I'm sorry but the way the game is played now if we concede 100pts every game we have a bigger problem than defence our midfield would have to be getting slaughtered and that's one area of the field we should do alright in.

Basically we only have Keeffe and Reid as our KPD so we need at least Back-Up in that Area.

He be only for the Short Term

Nothing more than insurance IMHO, probably caused by the loss of Marsh more than anything. It's pretty obvious that most clubs are looking for "role players" to fill KPDs and when you work through most other team's defensive set up there's only one "real" KPD style defender. If you look at at our back 6 in Rd 23 Howe basically played CHB (if such a position exists anymore) and Brown FB. Even then there wasn't really a match up for Brown other than the resting Ruck. Most forward lines are smaller and most back lines are quicker. Why bring in a gun KPD when he may be required twice a year? FWIW Sydney's 2nd key back is Dean Rampe Hawthorn's is Gibson. Neither would have been considered for those roles two years ago.

I'd like to see some stats on direct turnovers that lead to opposition scores with Frost included. Frost and Brown would have to be close to league leaders. What value is a purely negating defender, that struggles to negate ?

Whilst we do need some long term options in defence, I'm happy with Dunn and Keeffe replacing Brown and Frost. Whilst we may have lost a little in terms of one on one defenders, we'll save goals in terms of ball use out of defence, particularly important as we are a team who likes to switch backwards and so often that was ending up in the hands of Brown and Frost (assuming he actually got it in his hands rather than falling over and panic fumbling).

Perfect. Considering our playing list showed a complete lack of ability to implement a zone style game plan and that's why we had to switch to man on man. Dunn could be the perfect pick up!
