OK so don't crucify me for this but.. {sauce} a dude at my local who has a best mate that works in the Tigs coaching box (that much is confirmed) and, he assures me has another friend high up in the Pies coterie group reckons Steele wants to go. If not this trade period then the next.

Caveat/Disclaimer: this guy IS a Richmond supporter and also gave me a shithouse sure thing on the Guineas on the weekend so please factor that in. But he does have connections I've confirmed that much

In saying that I love Rusty and hope it's the BS I assume it is
Dude, firstly shame on you for having Richmond supporting friends.

Secondly, go listen to Steeles BnF speech. He's a pie for life. Lock it in.

Your mate doesn't know what he's talking about.

That's pretty amazing that he racks up 40 every week! Especially since he averaged 29.9 this year! Or could it be that you're exaggerating to suit your pov?

Regardless of that though, my issue is that you seem to be criminally underrating JDG, not that you're pumping up Rockliffs tyres.
Well no, i didn't check.

But as discussed earlier in the thread if we were to land Rockcliff someone like De Goey could have his position in the side questioned as he may be squeezed out.

Now if that were the case then we may be better using him to get an elite AA midfielder like Rockcliff into our side next year.

Pendles, Treloar, Rockcliff, Adams, Sidebottom, Grundy, Wells, Varcoe, Crisp...

We will push for a flag next year with a running brigade like that.

Now i'm all for keeping De Goey and watching him (hopefully) develop, into an elite AA midfielder.

But i am most definitely on board with the idea of getting Rockcliff into our midfield next year.

We would have to give up something to get him in, but no where near as much as if Brisbane clearly wanted Rockcliff next year.

I would give up De Goey if it meant Rockcliff helps us get closer to a flag next year... and other people wouldn't.

Thats cool. It's an internet forum for different opinions. If people don't like my opinion on this, i'm ok with that. I hope you guys can be ok with that :thumbsu:

Solely from a football perspective, Rockliff's stats are the 6th best in the AFL for a mid-fielder over the past 6 years. Not bad for a team that has finished 15th, 13th, 12th, 15th, 17th and 17th in that time. Imagine what he would add to half decent midfield?. Furthermore, Buckley won't put up with his off field crap.

Career Stats:
K: 13.7: M: 4.8; HB: 13.2: CP: 10.7; DE%: 70%; Tk: 5.9; R50: 2.4; I50: 3.0; Clear: 4.4; Centre Cl: 1.5; St: 3.0; Goals: 0.6; GA: 0.5

Add in Wells:
K: 11.9: M: 3.9; HB: 7.6: CP: 6.9; DE%: 75.5%; Tk: 2.7; R50: 1.6; I50: 3.8; Clear: 3.0; Centre Cl: 1.1; St: 1.9; Goals: 0.6; GA: 0.8

Would we look at trading out a Smith and/or Greenwood? (albeit he has 2 years left on his contract at $450K)

Honestly if Rockliff for De Goey straight swap I'd be quite tempted too given our list demographics despite De Goey being one of my highest rated players.

Despite De Goey being a very safe bet to become a good player, his ceiling is arguably somewhat close to Rockliff's current ability. However Rockliff does have his off-field issues and injury history.

So with all things considered I'm actually learning towards a straight swap.

You seem to be backtracking pretty quickly. You shit canned JDG saying he was worth a late pick and now you're saying you just meant that you would give him up for Rockliff. That's what I took issue with, not the fact that you'd give him up for Rockliff.

Rockliff is obviously a quality player, and we'd have to be mad not to at least consider him.

But...

...you'd have to think we'd start stretching the budget a little far bringing in Wells, Mayne and then Rocky this trade period. Surely if Rocky was a possibility, it would hamstring the Mayne deal along with any rumours we'd heard about landing a "big fish" in 2017.

Then you've got the question of how to find enough trade currency for him without a first round pick to spend, this year or next. We'd probably need all of the currency generated from the potential Witts, Williams, Brown and Frost trades, plus a little more, to satisfy a club which (rightfully) hates what we've done to them at the trade table.

And then you've got the strong rumours about Rocky's off field behaviour which would fly in the face of everything we hear about Bucks' culture and his desire for utmost professionalism.

I think he'd be an excellent player for us, and a midfield rotation of Grundy, Pendles, Treloar, Wells, Adams, Sidebottom, Crisp and Rockliff is insane, but this all seems just a bridge too far at the moment.
I reckon the equation is easy. Get Rockliff and leave Mayne in Freo.
