I do really like McDonald as a player, but if we are going to target a key defender of that quality it has to be Hurley. Hurley is a guy that we can get as a free agent so would cost us only the expense of a fat contract. We aren't in a position to throw away any more high draft picks in my opinion.
Agreed mate. Would love a Hurley type but would settle for a T-Mac too. We would obviously need to include something decent for him, having taken Kennedy off us I could see the Demons (Highly unlikely I know) dealing with us due to past trades working out well for them ie - Harry and Ben Ken.

We can only dream :)

Yes please. Hurley as a permanent back line fixture would be just the ticket. Would take an immense load of Reid's shoulders.
What I really like is that it has the potential to redefine Reids role. Reid could become one of the better third talls going around, playing deep and setting us up with his foot skills. He could be our permanent kick in which he does so well, and would help address a real list weakness. Hurley would also give us the flexibility to manage Reid through the season better. Or send him forward at times. Or cover for injury.

Agree mate.

But i think we need to be active if we miss Hurley (Rumors swirling hes already elected his suitor). Plan B should be inquiring about T-Mac IMO.

Melbourne need McDonald desperately, they won't even entertain the idea of trade discussions unless Tom wants to leave.. and I find that unlikely with the Dees on the way up

Agree they would be silly to trade him.

But just of note the Demons just signed Viney to a 4-5 year deal today.

Still have to sign:
T-Mac
Jetta
Watts
Harmes
Jeff Gartlett

Will be interesting in the next couple of months.

Why would Hurley come to Collingwood?

We would have to pay him a million a year for him to consider going to a bottom four club. Essendon are in a way better position than us once they get all their players back.

I would be shocked if he walked out on Essendon.

Hurley would be a great get and Hibberd could be valuable too.

Although I'd really like us to target speed and outside polish, I'd like to see how we could acquire:

1.Peter Wright
2. Sam Weideman

What would we have to give up for either? And could it be possible? If Hogan signs a big deal with Melbourne after Viney's new deal, perhaps Weed is a chance (let it by known I'm going on reputation. I've never seen him play).

Don't think Heritier or Chris have been that great at the Dees.
They haven't really. Dawes in particular has hardly been worth the $500k pa of his 4 year deal. We've let some good players go but I don't think either of them would make an enormous difference to our list. Dawes would still be dropping easy marks and H would still be kicking at clouds.

Very True at the Moment. Who would want to come to Collingwood?

Both would be very difficult gets and their clubs would ask for a great deal I would imagine. I agree that we need good young talls though.

There are many reasons and our list isn't THAT bad. It has some glaring deficiencies and we are playing poorly, but we aren't a basketcase. We don't use our players as pharmaceutical guinea pigs for example. ;)

Reid needs to learn how to be in the right position to be that player. His first 6 weeks has not been stellar for a player of his reputation. He gets off very easily.

Interesting though. Weideman's only been out for one year and Wright two. How do you place a value outside their draft position?
It's a good question and that's why I wouldn't hazard a guess... I have no idea what they would ask for. But it seems that young KPPs of any value are almost by default overpriced by their clubs.

What I don't understand about Sam Weideman is that if his father Mark played 28 games for us why did he not qualify for father son. I honestly have no clue what the father son system is now and how it works so he might not have been eligible.

Also realistically what would it take for us to acquire a 1st round pick? I feel if a new coach comes in at season end then it would be great if he could have a first to work with.

Would something like Witts, 3rd, 4th and future 2nd work?

Need to play 100 games to be eligible
