Didn't Wright make a play for Witts in the past mattys123??
No doubt he would have, and if the negative talk about Grundy continues the Hawks and other clubs will make a play for him soon.

We've made our bed, we've decided to go young with two developing rucks, we are into the fourth year of that now, we have to ride it out and see what happens.

He's 28 so no not for mine. It would have to be a ridiculously good deal, but he's now reached attainable status for the correct price.

For instance GWS come to us with their two first rounders, Nathan Wilson and Cam McCarthy come trade time and the decision becomes tough...
I would accept that in a heartbeat. Leave McCarthy and Wilson out of it and I would still strongly consider it considering Pendles' age.

Just a question: Why is James Stewart not a magpie/ Apparently Craig (father) played 115 games for us - did he reject us? He went at Pick #27 in 2012 so he was rated relatively high obviously, or was there another problem?

I don't rate him highly and wouldn't trade for him but if we had him from the start, he'd be somewhat handy and I'm guessing better than what he is at GWS.

Think we didn't elect him as father son, like we did with Moore. I think this was previous to the bidding system. I remember his dad wasn't too happy with us.

Unfortunately not.

It's a sad state but we have not improved at all over the past 4 years and are still going backwards. I don't think he will be around for our next tilt at a flag so it may be worth letting him go somewhere where he can get a second flag and allowing us some prime picks to try to build a list that will be competitive.

Of course I would never push him out of the club, but if he was so inclined I wouldn't try to force him to stay
Smacks of trading Shaw, except Pendles has done nothing but give his all for the club while trying to lead from the front.

You don't trade your club captain, and best player, unless he actually requests it. Jesus, the eagerness to rip the heart out of this club jumps up something shocking when the chips are down....

Brown would be lucky to get 3rd round compo let alone First round.. YOu have to think Carlton got nothing in compo for Jarrad Waite and I reckon brown would be on par with that.
Lol do you understand how the compensation system works? It takes into account the players age, the length of the deal and the amount per year. Waite was 31 and got a 2 year deal, Brown is 26 and would get at least a 4 year deal if he was to leave. Personally I wouldn't let him go

Yeah we would love to have Cam McCarthy over Pendlebury. The bloke is in Perth smoking bongs and living the surfers life with his mates

soft spot for Carlton out of pity
Hopefully it plays out as this.
Melbourne offer Hogan a beheamoth of a contract.
They also sign the improving Watts and other youngsters.
Weideman becomes currency as they can't squeeze him in and we offer some nice coin, in the Freeman/Saint ballpark.
Weideman wants out, hasn't played AFL, we offer a package of Witts and Cloke for Weideman plus something thrown our way.
Weideman surprizes all in 2017 and becomes one of the best KPP's coming through the ranks, in the same breath as Moore/Hogan/Lynch etc.

Stewart was only taken pick 27 because it was GWS's last pick in the draft and they wanted him as a project.. in reality he was a late draft option who didn't really perform well at junior level.

Poor man's version of Moore.

Dreaming. Weed will play seniors this year, he's only in the VFL to develop him enough to pass Dawes and Frost by, which he'll do quickly enough because neither are much chop.

His point remains if Melbourne pays big coin to keep Hogan and Watts he could be squeezed out

Weideman will not be a Magpie for a long time if at any time at all. One thing Melbourne will do is ensure that he is happy because they gave up a lot to get him in and will do everything they will to keep him there. I have a feeling he'll really enjoy Melbourne. He'll play AFL this year and be a star in the future. Guys like Watts and co. won't have anything to do with his contract situation.

Yeah let's put 6-7 years of development into a ruckman then trade him for a 2nd rounder, just as he might be developing into his best.

The Hawks would take Grundy or Witts off our hands tomorrow, and develop them into ruckman to play in their next 3 premierships.
As they Actually have a Ruck Coach

Personally I think he would love the opportunity. No matter what the club I couldn't imagine a greater honour then playing at the club your father and grandfather played for.
I agree, I just got a vibe when reading and watching interviews he didn't really care where he went and that it wasn't a big deal for him they played for us. More wanted to make his own legacy.

Because we where Trading Dawes and Wellingham and we did not know what Picks we had.

Plus he was not rated a Top 30 player
