soft spot for Carlton out of pity
We have an abundance of medium small defenders, Howe, Maynard, Williams, Sinclair, Schaz, Ramsay, Oxley, Langdon, Smith etc.
No-one could have predicted the injuies they as a group suffered but still, despite that they as a group were all good on Friday night. Mayard, Williams, Sinclair, Howe were all good. Maynard shapes as our Docherty, he will be a gun player in defense. We'll also have or should have Langdon, Schaz and Ramsay back next year.

I think we should trade Oxley out for a pick, and target WHE from GWS.
BTW, need to compare Lobb from GWS to Mason Cox, more of a like for like comparison than Witts who is a number 1 ruck.

I would still choose Lobb.

GWS do know how to pick a Key position player.
Funny enough we were saying similar stuff about Mcarthy last year. Both Mcarthy and Lobb are WA boys. Don't see Lobb wanting to leave unfortunately.

I realise I'm being a pedant here, but why would you look at it this way? IMO, it's the type of attitude that sees us bring second rate footballers in on a regular basis.

Russell can't be worse than Rounds, Armstrong can't be worse than Russell, Lynch can't be worse than Dawes, White can't be worse than Lynch, Golds can't be worse than Armstrong etc. It ultimately leads to a revolving door of list cloggers or guys on over inflated salaries.

Perhaps we should ask how does an individual already in the system improve our best 22 and if we can't identify at least 2-3 areas it's a no. That's what Hawthorn do and it seems to work alright to me (except for O'Rouke and Fitzpatrick).
I'm with you - only bring in 2 types of players
- Quality
- Role players that will be best 22

So if you had a choice of O'Meara or Hurley who would you take ( thinking about a need ) both would demand around the same coin

Obviously you'd choose Hurley purely because he's missing a year due to a ban rather than knee issues.

But...

<insert Mexican 'why don't we have both' meme here>

I would go Hurley. He can play both ends. O'Meara has been out for nearly two years and there is always a significant ongoing risk with his type of injury especially with acceleration of the degenerative process

Lobb wins that comparison hands down, IMO.
Admittedly I don't watch much of GWS but whoever is better it's a much more like for like comparison.

Cox stats are pretty amazing for a first year player let alone a first year player from another country.
I can't think of a more like for like comparison in the AFL.

Well Maynard will need to improve his disposal efficiency by around 10% if this is the case.

I'd like more pace and quality users of the ball.

Overall, I think Lobb will turn into a better Justin Westhoff. Key position player who can play anywhere, but much better. Lobb' contested marking wil overtake Cloke of 2010-11.

GWS actually requested Witts as part of the Treloar trade last year and he knocked it on the head himself.
Mumford is old, and Lobb is a decent forward/ruck, but it remains to be seen whether he would be a good 1st ruck option. They were on record saying they were targeting a big bodied ruck last year, whether or not they will be this year remains to be seen.
So could we Trade Witts for WHE?

Maynard is a good user, a good kick, his problem is brain fades/slash caving under pressure. He will overcome this in time.

I hope GC makes them pay through the nose like we had to for Treloar.

Sick of Hawks paying unders for quality players and teams roll over and just accept it with a smile.
Are you able to provide a recent example? For instance within the past 3 years? The only recent trades they've made have fallen reasonably flat, IMO, given their only recent high profile hit was a FA in Frawley.

He won't come cheap. Hawks won't have the draft picks so they will probably have to give up a player.

In addition to that, they also paid a hefty price for Burgoyne from memory. It's not so much that the Hawks get quality for unders, but that they're willing to do what needs to be done to get their targets.
