Also what's the deal with his contract? Just the prospect of him leaving for nothing would give us a potent negotiation tool.

Can't see us trading for him in a normal circumstance.

I haven't said at any stage that I think it will happen so why would I bet on it? I've been arguing his ability to exercise the clause. I don't think he would need to pull the restraint of trade card. This is a different scenario to that. He is able to terminate his contract on the grounds that Essendon have already breached his contract, he could have gone to the tribunal as soon as the bans were handed out if he'd wanted. He doesn't need to wait for them to attempt to facilitate a trade.
So after that back and forth you don't think it will happen? What a pointless discussion! Deadset more fool me for answering a bloody stupid question and getting drawn into an even dumber discussion.

No I don't think it will happen but it could happen. I'm certainly not going to bet on it and have a dick swinging contest with you, I'd kill someone.

But yeah, you really got sucked in by answering the near on rhetorical question incorrectly, better luck next time you flamin drongo.

Make no mistake players get where they want to go simple as that...

If he says trade me to the pies otherwise I will fight to be let go for nothing then it's possible. Witts, cloke? and a couple of picks could get it done. Who knows???Depends what his attitude towards the club is. Generally a manager will work his arse off to make these things happen.

You could have just stated that from the get go and it would have completely changed the discussion. Anyway all cool Hagla we just disagree and my frustration is borne out of the topic coming up again and legitimately at myself. As it is I feel for the real drongo in this discussion line going on the liking rampage lol.

In terms of free agency in 17 im most excited about Breust. Even more than Fyfe. Don't get me wrong Fyfe is a champion player but he turns it over alot then theres his leg injury. Then Breust would add something we don't have much of.

Heard 2 rumours from a very reliable source

1: We have offered Hurley 850k over 4 years with him earning well over a million in his 1st year, but he still hasn't decided where he wants to go.

2: The board has approached Paul Roos about coaching in 2018, Roos has said he wants to be a senior coach again in 2018 after taking 2017 off to have a holiday.

Believe it or not.

I like 1 , 2 is a bit premature, especially if 1 happens but given circumstances not surprising

1. We'd be crazy not to have done it.
2. We'd have to be crazy to do it.

I don't know about others, but employing Pert's best mate as senior coach scares me more than handing Buckley another pre-season contract extension. The plus would be that we're considering a Collingwood post Buckley whether it's the right move or not.

Be fine if we get Ratten or Dew in as well as an understudy for a year or 2 then they take over.

That's the exact same thing. We need to move into the 21st century and select a senior coach from a pool of candidates (if we make a change) not just shoe horn a guy in because they're flavour of the month.

I would be looking at the attributes of our group, the system the prospective coach comes from and their philosophies on the future of the game. From that you pick the best bloke to fit the direction of the club. AFL has become big business and head hunting blokes for the senior role doesn't do the job any longer.

FWIW Bulldogs, Sydney and St Kilda coaches would be high on my priority list because their systems would translate well to our list, IMO.

Even if not as a senior coach (and he may like it better that way) I think Roos would be great to have in some sort of footy operations/ general direction role , which is what he has been moving towards this year at Melbourne. Letting Goodwin take over plenty of the coaching and getting into the fitness, development, Leading Teams side of things and making sure there is a strong over arching direction and that weaknesses are being addressed etc......and everyone is on the same page with direction/strategy.

I think you assume there is some animosity between Hurley and Essendon, I don't believe there is any

You are correct, he could take the matter to the Grievance Tribunal and seek to become a FA, but I'm not sure he is the type of person who wants to open all that up again
If he elects to seek a trade he will simply tell Essendon to which Club he wants to go and for them to get the best deal possible
Any angst will come from people on the margins not the professional people dealing with this

Having said all that, I am happy that Collingwood is even in the conversation....this guy is a gun

Hurley = Bucks distracting Collingwood fans by giving future hope so we don't look how this year has gone

Reality we will end up with Jong and other C grades who can't kick.

PS: We got rid of Shaw for behavioral issues, how does Hurley fit in?

It goes back to that conversation we were having the other day. We cant afford to have two of Brown and Marsh in the same defence. Same goes for Frost. In fact given our game plan involves switching the play so often it's arguable whether we can afford one. Our ball movement breaks down when it is channeled through those players. Thats if we stick to our current game plan. Which makes Marchbank attractive.
Yep and why they are probably keen on Hurley. Suddenly Hurley and Reid in the back half looks a lot safer by foot. Be a pretty interesting race for the last 4 spots wouldnt it!

Quicky do you ever think Marsh should be trialled as a forward. Played there as a kid. Big boy, has speed and can mark. Question over whether he can lead at the footy well enough but gee he'd give a contest and you wonder if better than White.
