Collingwoodfc.com.au's coverage over finals

Just the important stuff please Jonathon, such as full coverage of what Alex Davis has and will be doing for the week. Pictures wouldn't go astray either.

Also a 'How to stop sucking at life and start being awesome like me' blog run solely by Leigh Brown.

Cheers

Agree on point 1

Point 2 has begun a five step guide to being as close as humanly possible to the awesome levels of Leroy has been produced and posted in the nest

No, we need video of Leroy. Really, all he needs to do is lift a few VWs, deflate basketballs with his bare hands and stare silently at the camera - but obviously not long enough that the cameraman compulsively runs away in terror.

(p.s. Frivolity aside, top work JB - very much enjoy the extra effort that goes into promoting the club for the last few years)

I'm pretty happy with the Black and White show and PieCast, I don't think we really need any more than that, I liked it when Neeld was on PieCast though, I think it'd be interesting to get more of the assistant coaches on to get their views on things. Other than that I think the club does a fine job with the media stuff. I do like Old Spice's "Banging on the Door" idea though.

Oh and thanks for the VFL chats as well, much appreciated.

:thumbsu:JB, I'd endorse a lot of the ideas put forward above. A suggestion as to how you could package some of the segments proposed here - what about CTV special - A (Working) Day/Week In the Life of a Pies Player?

We could follow him through a typical day/week at the Westpac Centre. I'd love to know what's involved in shaping and monitoring their individual training, fitness and nutrition programs, so what about featuring interfaces with the staff who manage these areas? An insight into the interaction between players is always good fun.

In the same vein, what about A (Working) Week in the Life of The Pies Coaching Staff? We'd all love to know how they go about their business. For example; how do they use video of a game a a reviewing/teaching tool? How much individual contact do they have with each player during a normal week, and what's the nature of that contact?

A (Working) Week in the Life of VFL Player would also be fascinating.

Naturally, all club footage would be judiciously censored to avoid giving any advantage to opposition coaches lurking behind trees or sports forum identities.:)

And what about a 1-off Fashion Notes segment, perhaps hosted by that style-guru, Leroy Brown, going through the full wardrobe issued to a Pies player. They do seem to have lot of uniform elements.

The CFC website is fairly lively these days. I particularly enjoy the interactive bits - polls and PPOTD.:thumbsu:

This. A more serious and analytical in-depth podcast featuring members of the coaching staff would be fantastic, and I would subscribe immediately.

The video diaries are fantastic and I would love to see more of them. Make them every week and I will visit the site more. I also appreciate the extra things you've been chucking in there lately, such as Jack Anthony's VFL highlights. Unexpected treats like that are great, keep doing them.

I like stats. Can we get more in depth stats at all? I keep hearing stuff like Leon Davis leads the league for I50 tackles, but I can never see a stat like that on the website. The clearances stat has been broken all year.

All in all, I think the website has vastly improved this year. The coverage of the VFL games is brilliant. Many opposition fans are envious of this innovation. Thanks for canvassing our feedback JB.:thumbsu:

and somehow get crackers kenan onboard . i.e mondayitis podcast

I imagine there may be problems going into depth regarding our coaching strategies etc, but just to reiterate, would really love to know where the coaches see young VFL prospects playing and their development plans (i.e. mooted positional changes).

when i have tried to play a video on the collingwood website its gone to some bigpond link thing and i could never play it.. maybe fix that so it works better! peace.

On this is there some exclusivity deal where the club website must be hosted by bigpond? As a media savvy man I'm sure you know how badly the site sucks balls, I assume that we'd have a much better designed website if you were able to change hosts?

I like the content, but the media player there is just trash.

Thanks for the great work Jono. As an overseas fan, it is frustrating that when I try to watch any video on the Collingwood site, I get redirected to Aussie Sports TV (which I am a member of) but none of the videos are on that site. It would be great if you also had a CTV Youtube account that all the videos were on, or some other way for O/S fans to watch them.

And also, you should also put DaVe86's previews of each game up on the site and throw him some coin for his in depth analyses.

Is that the case for all clubs or only Collingwood?

http://www.essendonfc.com.au/main.asp

Seems to be an official site, if Essendon can have a non crap site don't see why we can't.
Essendon is the only one, they fund, run and control their site. Not sure how they did it, but it was some agreement they set up

All others including ours go under the AFL/telstra agreement

Well put. More podcasts and video, graphics of stats - not just numbers. Let's keep it light-hearted and not get too serious. Let's have fun going into September.

I'd love to contribute to the site Jonathon! But I'd happily do it voluntarily.

Thanks Daics for the endorsement! If i can be of any help in any way, please let me know.

Maybe some coverage of the Beams and Barham counselling sessions? Video highlights, transcripts, reenactments (if no video is allowed), the highs the lows. It'd be good to chart their progress.

Also want to see a section called Trav's Menagerie- each week of the final could be dedicated to an animal, culminating in Smally for the GF - maybe it could be let loose into a paddock with two bales of hay one in our colours and one in the opposing teams colours to get it to do a Paul the octopus style prediction?

Also to add a somewhat serious reply, anyone from Collingwood reading this in an official capacity should give some real thought to publishing DaVe86's previews as a weekly segment on the website. If you go back or search for his reviews you'll see he religiously does them, they are literally the best you can find anywhere, and are always well received - even by opposition supporters, which tells you something about how good they are!

More content for the site can only be a good thing, particularly when it's of this caliber.

Agreed.. I regularly scour the net for CFC related content and Dave86 has the best preview by a country mile.

JB, thanks so much for the VFL coverage and the coverage in the NAB Challenge cup. As an interstate fan its really hard to get information about anything AFL related in Queensland and its a great resource.

Personally I'd like to see perhaps more in depth player profiles. Similar to the one's in the record. Have some fun with it or maybe get a fan to interview a player a week?

I also agree on the Bigpond issue. Worst video streaming ever, so a Youtube channel would be amazing! I tried to watch the match replay of the anzac day clash as I was working while it was on and my hard drive decided to bust so it didn't record properly. The only way I could get it to work was at such a low resolution that I couldn't see where the ball was.

Yeah. Smally can lay a hay-pudding next to the team hay bale he favours. A session on players and animals would be great.

Trav obviously with Smally, maybe possum in the Botanical Gardens after dark, eating magnolia buds with other possums. Medders with his puss-puss.

Thanks to everyone who responded.

We will definitely be following up several of your requests regarding the coverage over finals.

With regards to the BigPond player/ video problems, it is singlehandedly the biggest issue we face every day. We put plenty of resources into our CTV programs and would love to stream them through a channel which works 100% of the time. Unfortunately we are bound by the agreement which we signed with Telstra several years ago which require us to upload all video through the BP player.

While the contract limits the club in many ways, it also enables us to provide what we think is a strong website with regularly updated content.

As I stated during the VFL coverage over the weekend, we are looking at creating a YouTube channel for the VFL. We can get away with this because the VFL isn't factored in the Telstra/BigPond/AFL contracts.

Again, thanks for your responses and hopefully the finals coverage will extend over four weeks!

Go Pies!

I have a request/suggestion.

I have noticed how allover the place the Facebook site is. The photos on that page are stupid & detract from the page. For example, you look at the EPL & NFL clubs & they have photos submitted/taken by the club itself on the page. Really adds to it.

Can you have it on the BigPond Player and Youtube?
