And its not as if Geelong have ever been dominant in the VFL/AFL. 6 flags in over 100 years.

I never made a comment about Essendon. I mde a comment about the so called struggling sides of Hawthorn, Melbourne and Geelong who all made the finals in the VFL as well as the AFL. Add Carlton to that, but I wouldn't call them a struggling club.

The fact remains that Essendon has 28-30 very good footballers, and that probably translates to the best list, it doesn't mean they have the most depth.

They really do tail off at about player number 31 through to 42, hence the reason their reserves struggled. It certainly wasn't due to injuries. Why do you think that Essendon has only used 29 players this year?

The afore mentioned sides are the one's with the future, Essendon are the present, but unless they get a few good young recruits next year they will start to sruggle, maybe not next year, but the years after.

Sides like Hawthorn, StKilda, Melbourne, Carlton and Geelong are the future.

North are in exactly the same position as Essendon, and Richmond are a little behind as they missed the finals.

Even StKilda struggled in the AFL this year but their reserves got a double chance.

Sides which finish down the bottom of the ladder in both comps are the one's who will struggle in the future.
