We have a habit of relying on our tall men to spark us into action, it being a Cloke mark, Reid intercept, etc etc. What the best sides do in the competition is share the ball evenly, get an even contribution across the board. Hawthorn use numerous options at full forward, most of the time they’re smaller than your usual gorilla sized forward but effective. It’s time to bring on the next wave of forwards, stop relying on Cloke or taller forwards to have an impact because when they don’t, we struggle to get opportunities forward of the ball.

Is Jeremy Howe the answer to our needs in the short term? He is medium sized after all, can take a mark and create opportunities for others. He needs to come in and become a goal kicker, potentially as soon as this week against Richmond, otherwise we may as well get used to losing.

FF: Moore Howe Fasolo

How’s this look for a deep forward line?

If it works against Richmond we should persist with it.

That's because our smalls are so inept at hitting targets, we're forced to rely on our talls taking the impossible mark.

I think Hawthorn rely on players like Roughead, Lake (before retirement), McEvoy, Gibson, Hale/Ceglar, Frawley, and even Schoenmakers as much as any of their other players, it's just that they have quality all over the field, in all sizes. I'd be as bold to say our fully-fit forwards and rucks are just about as good as theirs (with Cloke in top form at least on a par with Roughy and Elliott could rival Rioli if he gets his body right) but our defenders and smalls are a fair way behind theirs.

Not much different to Howe, Moore, Fasolo. Just because Hawthorn are undersized up forward doesn't mean we must follow suit
