Collins' comments disappoint Kouta - The Age.
"As a player and obviously the captain of the club, you would hope that if he had a problem with anything, he would come and speak to me face to face," Koutoufides said yesterday.

"If not me, my manager, so at least we knew there was a problem.

"It's disappointing to hear that things were said in the media conference.

"My manager and I extended the contract to help the club out and I thought they were pretty pleased with it and I thought I was helping the club out by doing it.

"If it wasn't the case, my contract would have been finished end of last year, but I'm still playing now." Koutoufides' contract was extended in 2003 to cover the 2006 season.
That's right listen, listen to that idiot of a Manager who blew up Collo's factual statement that we only have one big contract left into a ********storm of bad publicity.

If Kouta had his contract extended to "help out the club" wouldn't he have still taken home a milllion or more?

Why didn't Allison organise a pay cut instead of signing an extension to help out the club? Too much taken from his own backpocket! ;)

Allison is a reputable and skilled player manager who always screwed the club. :(

The Age: The Carlton salary cap saga has been brought to a merciful close, with prominent player agent David Allison reprimanded by the AFL for not acting in the best interests of Blues ruckman Matthew Allan, when he advised Allan to sign a variation of his contract without having first seen it

Lets not get too carried away with the size of Kouta's contract, remember he has been our marquee and best player for the past 5 or 6 years. The Carey's and Buckleys would have been on similar dollar values.

As far as I am concerned Ian Collins has been harping on the negatives for way too long and I am tired of it. It's about time he try and establish a good relationship with the players and start generating positive momentum around the club, not constant doom and gloom. Who in their right mind would want to sponsor our club or come and play for it for that matter?

I think Collo should step aside and allow a younger more positive and energetic person to come through, or someone out there with the backing and nous should consider putting forward an alternative.

To have our Captain blueing with the President is not good at all - Collo should be smart enough to know that.

David Allison is a Nazi and a scourge on the game... The AFL would be a better place if he wasn't about, and the Carlton FC would be a happier place.

However, the feeling that I get from the above post is that Kouta is strangling the club.... WRONG!!!

When a player signs a contract he gets paid in the majority for his play in the previous years.... people forget that from 1995-2000 Kouta was an absolute superstar of the comp, arguably the best player in the AFL, and during this time was getting paid what 200-250K??? Despite giving us value for money, 4-fold on what he was getting paid....

People have such short memories. Ian Collins included, if his view is as narrow-minded as he is making out.

Kouta is now reaping the benefits of a stellar career, and has already earnt every last penny he will now receive. He could fall over now, and never play another game and I'd happily honour his contract in full.

As for replacing the Prez.... James Brayshaw's not a Carlton supporter by any chance???

Hahaha! I like the way you think, Snoozer.

There's no harm in asking him... :)

North supporter.

Allison - scourge
Collins - narrow minded

agree

In the past, i've been prepared to stick up for Collins. He was the only who ran against Elliot , and thankfully got him out of the club. He has be able to reduce our debt down from $11M to $7M in 3 years, which is pretty good by anyones standards.

But now he has gone too far. I can't believe you would say that at a Press Conference. Considering the amount of money Kouta has probablt bought into the club in terms of memberships and corpoartes, Kouta is entitled to every cent he can get.

It's time for him to go. As has been said on this board before, time to get a new face in their as President.

It was a pay cut cypher. His contract was extended for one year for no additional money. In effect he plays for 4 years for the price of 3 which makes it a 25% pay cut.

I am definately in favour of a change. I dont want any bad blood spilt yet I think the club needs someone who is far more charismatic than Collins, and more sensitive to the needs of the club. I would feel much more optimistic and enthusiastic if the club pumped up the brand more and sent out a more positive message, not the current down and out message that keeps getting out. It's no wonder we cant get corporate sponsorship and have to cop the crap from opposition supporters..........Who are the suggestions for replacing Collo??????

I think something might happen at the end of this year. A couple of changes in the next few weeks and more to come at the end of the year.
At least 2 I would say at the end of the year and a change at the top with a bloodless transition.

Mojo you are usually pretty accurate and wise with your comments which is why I would be most interested in hearing more from you on this. Can you shed some more light to give us supporters a little dose of optimism??

I think Lee has the numbers. Clarke looks very likely to join him also. I doubt Hart will.

Pavlou and Valmorbida are the ones under pressure. Pavlou has all but given up it seems on reatining his board position. Valmorbida is "actively' trying to garner support to keep his.

2 more board members are considering there future at the end of the year. They will be involved with a "transitionary phase". They will quietly slip away like Swan McKay and Kenny Hunter did.

Ian Collins will find he does not have the time, his health and the Dome and a myriad of other reasons why he will step down at the end of this year.

All lovely PR spin.

So basically 5 board changes by this time next year most likely at this stage. With a new and younger voice leading the charge in replacement of Collo.

I think that is what we need to be honest and I believe that will be the start of our climb out of the deep hole we are currently in... Thanks for the info...

By the way will Saddington play round 1?

The problem with Saddington is that he will look ok at training and then after it and his knee cools down it swells up and is a problem. So he is back in training now and looks okay but will have to wait and see how his knee is after 2 weeks of hard running and then how it recovers after that.

So at this stage it would be a no. I see him as playing 2 missing 1. Playing 1 missing 1 and like that all season. Modifed program and really feeling the pinch after a game at the Dome and an interstate trip. Just going to have to manage him as best as we can.

I stand corrected.

I guess you shouldn't believe everything you read in the Herald Scum and what people posts on messageboards. ;)

Even if half his contract isn't included in the cap no player deserves to earn that figure. This contract is still a huge burden for the club and that's all Collo was referring to. But I understand the argument he isn't media savvy enough to understand it will taken out of context by muckrakers and pricks like Allison.

I’m disappointed that anyone is questioning what Kouta is getting. He is the club captain, best player and was a superstar when he signed a big deal, which he has previously altered for the good of the club. He has always been a great role model and in the few times he pops up in the media its not because he has been drunk/rowdy/cheating on his wife/in trouble with the cops but has been because he is championing some charity.
He is a class act and if any of the young players watch and follow his lead we will be heading in the right direction.
I think its pretty low that Collins was brought this into the media especially since Kouta has always done the right thing by the club.

Let's hope so Mojo. I new younger and more vibrant president is just what the club needs now. They have now got their new business model in place and should be cash positive by 2008.

I also want someone who is actively going to get out into the marketplace and has the ability the get more sponsores/corporates on board.

Your comments about Allison are spot on. His major concern now is that Kouta is the last of his major cash cows and he knows full well that at the end of this season Kouta will be offered a significantly smaller contract and as a result Allison will see his own income reduced significantly. With Hamill nearing the end of his career and Allan and Hulme gone, Allison must be starting to wonder where he can get the big dollars from next. So his comments to the media were just as much about self preservation as they were about the way Kouta was being treated. After Kouta retires, we should never see Allison darkening the doorstep at Princes Park, again.

Kouta has a problem with Collo's comments and the fact Collo did not sit down and discuss it with him personally.

So does Kouta discuss his objections with Collo.. Of Course not, it comes out in the media too.

Great.

Hadn't thought of it that way unti I read your post, but you make a good point. :thumbsu:

fair point but wtf should he?

Collo should get off his high horse and come out and publicly apologise to Kouta! He's the only player at PPark who is truly a Carlton blue blood IMO and Collo comes out and puts him down

Fitzy for Prez 2007 :thumbsu:

Is he still in the picture??

Please!

Kouta = terrible captain... Allison already bagged the club re Collo.. why does the captain feel he needs to throw his 5c worth in too?
Collo = terrible president media wise...

The club is a rabble and the sooner the broom goes through all those entities (board . match commitee and senior players like Kouta0 the better.

Kouta used to be good inconsistently through to 2000 you mean... its not like each of his years from 95 to 2000 demands he gets paid 1 million dollars today!!!!
Had 3 sensational years.... too sensitive to be a captain of a footy club and no longer an inspiration on the field.

If you want this club to start heading somewhere make sure you vote!!!/..for a change.!!!

were miles behind everyone else on and off the field!!!

Fitzy doesnt want it....

Its a hard job... and some people like to comfortable in life..

There are a few people waiting out in the wings.. the problem is the reak heavy hitters wont go to an election.... they want to be invited on.

This board is actually shrinking...their ideal size is 7.
wont be any inviting on while Collo and smorgan are around.
