..was reading the HUN on the toilet and there was an article about Richmond and how they need more goal kickers besides Revolt. Interestingly their only other goal kicker was COLLINS!

Be interesting to see how he fits in with Hendo, Garlett, Waite and Eddy..Maybe we keep Setanta up forward and Waitey down back??

It seems like he'll be doing the job Houlihan should have done the last 10 years??

I suppose so, he seems a bit light still but by all reports he still plays very tough and is good defensively as well as his skills to hit the scoreboard. He could be very very handy for us.

He's light alright and baby-faced to go along with that, but already to date he is showing a lot more grunt than that guy we traded for him.

He may just be our next, "skinny"

Oh how I hope so! Was the player I went to watch after Kouta retired. Bit of a pity we won't be seeing him on the sidelines this year!

Will be really interesting to see how he goes today. Saw him for the first time against Adelaide and he exceeded my expectations. Looked really composed and committed to the contests. Hopefully this is the norm for him. If so think we will have picked up a very good player.

Collins 2010 stats shows he averaged about 4 tackles/game which is pretty good for a mid size forward.

I think he will be more than handy in applying defensive pressure on our forward line and should fit in well with the likes of Garlett (20 games/73 tackles), Betts (23 games/76 tackles), Yarran (16 games/53 tackles), Robinson (16 games/67 tackles).

All we need now is for Walker (16 games/22 tackles) to lift his tackle rate if he is going to play a defensive forward role.

Richmond need goalkickers. They just prefer midfielders with poor disposal. :thumbsu:

I see you can't go a post without trying to bag Houlihan who was brilliant last season before injury.

Walker is more likely to take over Houlihan's role than Collins.

If Collins puts in another solid performance today then he is every chance of lining up against his old team come round 1.

Yeah, it's pretty strange why they sacked their 2nd best forward especially when their forward-line was ranked 16th in 2010. So logically you would have thought they'd aggressively target forwards in the trade/draft period, but instead the only forward they added was Brad Miller! They even overlooked Jack Anthony in the PSD. Bizarre list management yet again. Collins had a pretty good pre-season, and seems to be over his Richmond-injuries, and has even added a little weight. Looks to be enjoying his footy and fitting in well. Has a great opportunity with Houllihan still not fully fit. Hope he has a great season.

Yeah this just says it all lol. Miller would make a better goal post than a goal kicker.

I think he is a rd 1 starter if Houlihan is unavailable or not match fit just yet. He has been great when I have seen him, just a fantastic user of the ball.

Would have thought he would be an automatic selection. After all, he was asked for directly by the recruiters so they must be pretty keen to slot him into a particular role. Has loads of courage, is a great mark and would be the type of player to set the standard expected of the entire Carlton list in season 2011 (in terms of courage and committment to the contest)

That's where it belongs.

I think that he will play games this year and he could be a chance for round 1 if Hoops isnt ready yet. I can see him definitely taking over from hoops in 2-3 years time but he needs to finish his body development first. He is about 5-10kg below what he should be to play a defensive forward and would get shrugged off too easily right now.

The only other player who would be a direct replacement for Hoops would be Mitch Robinson, but he is slated for playing more of a defensive midfield role in the future and once Collins has built a bit more of a tank, he and Robo could be swapping places during the game.

Either way, in a couple of years, the Carlton forward line is going to be chock full of elite talent that will make the rest of the league drool :D

Has improved a lot since escaping Bleakmond. He's put on weight, got over shoulder and other injuries, improved his skills, is learning a new gameplan, and looks like he's really enjoying the challenge of getting a spot in a talented lineup. To me he looks like a natural HF flanker. Smart, reads the play well, very good skill execution, a natural goal kicker and good at setting up fellow forwards. Seems to have a good understanding with Garlett already. very team-oriented. Lots and lots of upside. His progress has actually surprised me. Just goes to show how important the quality of a clubs player development and facilities are. Initially I thought the Tiges won out on the Grigg trade, but now I'm not so sure. Strange decision to sack a young forward who was their 2nd highest goal-kicker, and then go on to recruit Brad Miller.

:)

Our forward line is going to be crowded.

Waite, Henderson, Walker, Betts, Garlett.......I've read Hampson, Kreuzer, Collins, Robbo, Setanta.........no wonder Yarran has been sent to HB.

Glad to see the competition for spots is strong.

I like the cut of Collins jib........like Robbo, I think I will enjoy watching them have a physical impact on teams when their bodies catch up to the way they naturally play.

Definitely love the way he goes about it.

He was brought to the club because of something that is obviously a focus for the club moving forward - returning to a winning mindset. Self-belief.

He single-handedly turned a game on its head with some outstanding goals after getting concussed. THAT is the kind of player who helps a team win premierships. "Never say die", "fight to the end", and other attributes of that nature :)

We've lacked depth of big game players for far too long. Judd and Fev were really the only ones we had for a while. Collins isn't going to make the difference himself, but hopefully others see what he can do and lift their own game - and their belief in each other to get the job done will follow.
